850 doesn't have a dead spot in the pan either. Early season you can get away with using the 750, but for everything else the 850 beats it. Neither are close to what the NO BS traps are though.

850 hands down. Jawspread and power to come up through the crust. Plus the fact that the 750 is the worst wolf sized trap I have dealt with for freezing down. The 750 does bed really nice, and isn't a bad dry ground trap, I'll continue to use the ones I've got during the early season and they will be the first trap I grab to set in an area I am worried about trap thieves. But I won't buy any more as long as 850s are available at the same price point. That's where I'm at with it. Actually up here I can buy Duke 850's in the grocery store for $35.99 each, MB 750's they charge $47 for.

I would agree with jaw spread comments that bigger is better; but, you also have to consider if your state has jaw spread restrictions. In Wisconsin, we are limited to an 8" outside jaw spread on dry land, but only after November 30 to the end of season. Before November 30 the outside jaw spread is limited to 7" on dry land.

Well since we aren't trapping wolves and lions in Wi, I think a 7" jaw spread on dry land Is just fine.

Agreed. Only thing I did to NO BS was shave the pans down. The Duke gets kinda wrecked on its first wolf and requires a bit of work beefing up. 750 is great, just a small jaw spread and I haven’t had em freeze down using waxpapar or just setting in good cold conditions. In the end, I’d rather buy one good trap than 6 inferior ones……

Well since we aren't trapping wolves and lions in Wi, I think a 7" jaw spread on dry land Is just fine. Until they reopen a wolf season for you. I knew you were pretty limited on your choice of wolf traps in your previous seasons. The last one not quite as bad since it opened late, but I didnt realize that it was an 'outside jawspread' restriction rather than inside.

What do you consider wrecked?
Only issues I've had with the Dukes are bent dogs and a couple bent pans from caught wolves. You can pretty much guarantee that you are going to being straightening dogs. I've never yet not been able to straighten them enough with the tools I've had on hand to reset them. But some can be a pretty snaky looking. I'm getting some replacement dogs this year to carry on the mine with me. I've had a 750 that the wolf bent up the dog rod so that I had to replace it in order to reset it.
Yeah, the No BS traps are superior, but they should be for the price. Like you say, bent dog and pan. Not wrecked, just kinda wrecked. I was able to reset it in the bush with some work. I also threaded nuts onto the rods that hold the springs. This Duke was holding a young 65lb female. Didn’t put up much fight, but the bigger boys that wandered over some 750s destroyed the area. Traps held up fine.

They’re supposed to come with them. Bill sent me one for free when I bought one in Escanaba, but I think it cost him a small fortune to ship…lol I installed it once and took it off. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/05/full-56418-257742-img_0973.jpeg)

I’m going to order a dz of those and the first thing I’m going to do is reverse the spring pin and weld it or bolt it in place. That will give room to weld on a bracket or pilar block with a hole to accept a brass bolt to tighten for the pan tension. I see no reason that would not work like a charm.
