Trumps respected.
Notice the difference between him arriving in Saudi Arabia compared to no one greeting Biden when he went there?

Someone certainly has TDS ! I have been in Midwest the last few weeks. The elaborate alters built to Trump I have seen in some places are truly an indication of high level of adulation by some individuals in this country. Some serious work has gone into some.

Take the liberal Twin Cities out of the election and democrats lose every time. In most elections, the rural areas outvote the liberals by around 80%.

Obama election map minnesotaI count 5 counties in Minnesota in this recent election that might have voted 80% Republican? 2008 electionThat would be a big fat zero for rural counties having 80% republican support in 2008. I love a good story.

We’re out of the loop I guess, how exactly did China fold here? Was the US pausing things for 90 days a massive Chinese fold? Is there something major that I’m missing other than them dropping reciprocal tariffs after he dropped initial tariffs?

Is there something major that I’m missing other than them dropping reciprocal tariffs after he dropped initial tariffs? I think we went back to the original tariff in April, but I believe there is a 25% tariff on anybody who buys Venezuelan Oil and a fee on anybody who delivers goods with chinese made ship? I'm not sure anybody knows what tariffs to charge? "Sec. 2. Imposition of Tariffs. (a) On or after April 2, 2025, a tariff of 25 percent may be imposed on all goods imported into the United States from any country that imports Venezuelan oil, whether directly from Venezuela or indirectly through third parties. Duties imposed by this order will be supplemental to duties on imports already imposed pursuant to IEEPA, section 232 of the Trade Expansion of 1962, section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, or any other authority."

Exactly. Both dropped their tariffs 115% Which is probably the only thing they agreed on.
So in the end we" the Americans "get to pay a 30 percent tax and the losers" the Chinese" get to pay a 10 percent tax .

It’s kind of amusing reading about this big win that is much more like just a cancellation of the imposition of something large, which was retracted because it wasn’t going as hoped. Massive win I guess if all you read tells you it was a massive win. Art of the deal I think it’s called.

Please explain this massive fold please without bringing whatever it is you’re bringing into it. Lol China had us by the short hairs because joey and his family were beholden to Xi. Xi did this on purpose to shut them up or he would really expose how much bribery had taken place (I am sure it was MUCH worse than the media would report). Trump is playing the long game with them like they do with the rest of the world. Joey and his dysfunctional family only wanted money for the biden crime empire. Joey was willing to throw America off the cliff for the benefit of his family only. Trump is not that kind of man. He will not be beholden to Xi like joey was. Joey might as well have been the captain of the titanic. Trump is trying to right the ship.

"The Biden administration will increase Section 301 tariffs on imports of wafers, polysilicon and certain tungsten products from China, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative announced Wednesday.
Solar wafers and polysilicon imports, critical components for solar energy development, will now face a 50% tariff rate. Tungsten products, such as bars and sheets, will be subject to a 25% tariff rate. The hikes will take effect Jan. 1."
Democrats are the party of protectionist tariffs.

It’s in the ballpark of somewhere around 40% of US imports out of China not being consumer goods but things used in manufacturing right there in the USA . That’s worth considering too. Backing off on the whole war with China maybe isn’t terrible for US manufacturing if all the plants in China haven’t locked their doors and moved back yet.

The 2 biggest hardwood lumber producers in my area Gutchess Lumber, ( 2.5 million board feet per week) and Baillie Lumber arguably largest hardwood lumber producers east of the Mississippi, except for White Oak, shut down buying any hardwood logs after Trumps liberation day. As of the 90 day tariff deal, they have again starting purchasing most species of hardwood logs, wide open no quotas.

I voted for Trump. I think I made the correct choice. He is a worker. Talks a little too much but I think he can fix it if the people would leave him alone. I don't trust the Chinese government. I wish we could get donkey lips from New York and the fake Americans from the squad out of there. I'm tired of hearing that noise. When people vote for people like that you wonder will we ever pull out of this mess. I know I still live in the best country. Thank God for that.

I would not call paying 30% more a win, especially as consumer confidence is declining. We will see some shortages this summer as thousands of containers were delayed weeks ago. That may well be temporary but as retailers plan months ahead there will be some hiccups in our traditional retail marketing schemes. Going from 125% to 30% will help keep agriculture commodiites competative so hopefully we don't have to spend 30 billion bailing out soybean farmers like we did in 2018.
Bryce The US imports 5 times more from China than what China imports from the US. An equitable deal for China in real dollars would be China paying the US 10% tariffs and the US paying China 50% tarriffs. The 10% / 30% split represents a significant windfall for the US compared to what 10% / 50% split would be. Put your checkers away. We're playing chess here.

I'd guess some thought that about you when you tried run your post count up by 100 alone on the alcohol thread. lol Others might find it weird that people would post a lot on a trapping forum but really never give much indication they actually trap. I kind of find that weird about you. Just because exceptionalism has created an environment where you don't learn about the world outside of your borders doesn't mean that applies to the rest of the world. You could explain this massive fold and prove me wrong or I'll just sit back like the rest of the world and laugh at the statement.

Below is some data on US and China trade numbers Bryce The US trade deficit with China in 2024 was $295.4 billion. This deficit represents a significant difference between the value of US imports from China and US exports to China. China's trade surplus with the US reached USD 97.07 billion in a recent period, with both exports and imports shrinking. Here's a breakdown of the US trade deficit with China: 2024: The US goods trade deficit with China was $295.4 billion. Imports: U.S. goods imports from China in 2024 totaled $438.9 billion. Exports: U.S. goods exports to China in 2024 were $143.5 billion. Deficit Trend: The trade deficit with China has consistently been a negative number, indicating that the US imports more from China than it exports to China. Impact: The US has consistently imported more from China than it has exported to China, with the bilateral US trade deficit in goods with China rising to $375.6 billion I am patiently awaiting your point.

There is no point other than your statement of 5 times as much trade deficit with China in value is not accurate. It is almost 3 to 1.
Bryce At 3 to 1 as you say, Trump made a very equitable deal for both the US and China, did he not?

Let me get this correct if the price of Chinese products go up 30% in the U.S. the trade deficit will be reduced? Go price Chinese made products and compare them (if they exist) to similar American made products. I think you will find that most Chinese products are not 30 percent less expensive, but at least 100 percent cheaper. The U.S. consumer will still just buy the cheaper Chinese product that now is 30% more and the U.S. government will just collect the tax. This will help reduce the Federal budget deficit somewhat.

Bryce At 3 to 1 as you say, Trump made a very equitable deal for both the US and China, did he not? There is another side to this coin that rarely, if ever, gets mentioned. Especially not by those who believe that a trade deficit is so destructive. The flip side of a trade deficit is a capital account surplus. The two things balance just like the accounting entries that they are. When we buy three or five times as many Chinese imports as they do our exports.......we pay for those imports in dollars. The Chinese now have to do something with those dollars to earn some sort of return. Over the last several decades they have been using those dollars to buy our debt and thus finance our national deficit. This strengthens our capital accounts balance which also encourages other countries and individuals to invest in the United States. Of course there are arguments to be made that China holding our debt is not a good thing........ but what other country in the world is going to step up and loan us the money every week to keep functioning ? Congress could always reduce spending I guess But a trade deficit is not the completely terrible thing that this administration wants to convince you that it is. We have run a trade deficit for decades while still growing our economy. The problem is spending. That is no surprise to anyone here

Well if anything taught us that the reliance on china for goods it was Covid. I seriously believe that the us could make the majority of what we need and at a cost effective rate if we could scale our manufacturing up. Regulations and tax is what increases our price of American made goods, most will claim labor cost are the problem but with robotic automation we can and should be competitive.
