went to the rifle range this morning for a little Recoil Therapy. wind played havoc with most of the morning (rarely blowing from the same direction for long)

BUT...heard a whip-poor-will nearby, even though the morning was bright and clear.

Music to my ears!

Have a few here. One or two in the backyard. Hear them every evening. Love hearing them while having my coffee. Sarge

I used to hear them all the time when I was a kid growing up in Southeast PA. The they gradually disappeared. Last I heard one was years ago up near my camp in North Central PA.

I miss hearing their calls.

Eh...wot?

I once had Jack Wills Widow nesting near our house. Our dogs didn’t like it.

There’s a couple places out on Rt 144 in northern Centre County that I can always hear them.

I'm up in northwestern Potter County. I used to hear them after sunset while roosting gobblers in the spring. My hearing isn't what it used to be so maybe they're still singing and I'm just missing it.

Had lots of them in the stateliness serpentine barrens which ran the PA/MD line. I used a cassette tape and would call them in after dark when leading night hikes, during my conservation/ranger career, I actually found one killed on the road and had it mounted. It should still be at Nottingham County Park.
