I never remember my dad taking time out of his day to swap out my alternator. Should've let son in law try to figure it out, that would've been good for laugh before frustration set in.

Gave The Boy a Chilton book with his truck. Don't have a daughter. Lol

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Boys fend for themselves.

Girls have men to fix their cars. Dad's the man til they find one of their own.

Everyone was born knowing nothing, and it's not his fault if nobody taught him to repair his own vehicle. But, he should have a willingness to learn. I'd help him if he wants to learn, I wouldn't do it (for free at least) if he just wanted to hang out inside while I got dirty.

We were too cheap to swap out the whole alternator, we rebuilt our own by putting in new brushes, regulator and diode trio's in them.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Good luck finding those parts nowadays, for most modern vehicles.

Some boys didn't have a father or friends to teach them cars or fixing anything. My youngest daughter's husband is one of those, keyboard warrior all the way. He changed the oil in my daughter's car. Did OK, got the oil drained and filter replaced and then went off the rails. Poured the whole 5 quart jug into a 4 quart engine and then forgot to replace the dip stick. I got a call that her car was leaking oil. Lifted the hood and their was oil everywhere. Shot out through the dipstick hole and coated the top of the engine. Took some looking, but found the dipstick and showed him how to check the oil level and then we (he) drained a quart out of the engine. He won't make that mistake again, but there are so many more he will make because he doesn't know and doesn't know what he doesn't know.

He's willing and learning, I can't be to hard on the boy. He's a good daddy and trying. He can't help it he was raised by a drunk mama.

Yeah, we had a whole conversation about that. Even if you didn't do the work yourself we used to have shops that specialized in alternators or radiators or relining brakes/clutches or turning rotors and drums.
