So far every single Confederate has been traceably related to me.

I will admit, sorry Savell, Grants my cousin too.

When the Confederate men came together to fight for their way of life, it was family coming together to fight as they always have.

One of my sources has him born in Virginia. The Edgefield District produced many of my kinfolk. The revolution in Georgia/SC/NC was as much civil war between neighbors as it was revolution.
It's why my bunch headed to Spanish West Florida.

let's see the south were all Democrats right. You claim that people would still be trapping if you won. Then ask if we are fighting for transgender surgery? Those seem to be Democrats hot items at this time. It took the first Republican president to straighten out you guys last mess. Now we got another one trying to fix this mess. I hope you don't take up those battles maybe you'll still be able to tell the deference between a man and a woman. laugh

You know good & well that the ideology of democrats and republicans have completely swapped platforms over the last few decades.

There were mostly good people and a few bad people, on both sides during the Civil War. Pretty much everybody, with early US ancestry, had relatives fight for both sides. We should all be glad that our ancestors were able to make amends and come together to be the greatest country the world has ever known.

Picking to much at old wounds can reopen them. It's important to learn from the past and interesting, but there's no good reason to keep any old hard feelings alive, amongst our people, when all the primary actors are long dead. We are stronger together than divided

Well bless your heart, you ain't from around here are you?

Yes, they were democrats but not the liberal ones of today. They were ultra conservative. If anything seccession was over 10th amendment issues and Jim Crow was definitely as well and for preservation of the social status quo. Matter of fact the still extant sodomy laws are in the southern states.

The party switch came about as the national dims went left and the rinos developed a conservative Goldwater wing.

I have no dog in this fight, my people showed up here shortly after the Civil War, but it's interesting that so many guys can trace their ancestry back to certain individuals. I can barely get past the ones that walked off the boat...

BTW the party of Lincoln was never conservative, fiscal or otherwise. Completely aside from their abolitionist position take a look at the transcontinental railroad. Modern day rinos would be envious to pour that much federal money and assets towards big corporations. And they did that while using federal power to militarily coerce the states, both south and north, into line.
