Anyone snare blue crabs ? Dang things are waking up down here and get them in the line stealing bait more then fish lol. Able to pull them up once that gets a hang of the bait and don't wanna let go but it's a one in five type deal.

I got this one hook and line , let him eat on my minnow long enough that when I set the hook I snagged the claw

I tried a cheap trap , the basket seems to work the best from watching folks on the docks , the trap I tried the doors didn't open right when it was lowered and the crab was on the top trying to get the chicken neck when I pulled it up
basket is simpler less to go wrong

I like the rigid pots, but the non rigid ones stack better in my boat

All you need is a chunk of fish on a hand line, crab goes for the bait and you pull it to the surface slowly and dip it out with your net. Never saw those crab snares...keep it simple.
Some people use chicken for bait but a fish head or bunker will out fish chicken.

Looks cool

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Gordon Ramsey, maybe…

Not sure if you’re asking me.

Delaware: yes for sook, no for sponge.

Maryland: no for any female crab.

When we used lines to catch crabs and crayfish, we put the net under them before pulling them out of the water. Most of the time, the crabs and crayfish will let go as soon as they feel air.

You can legally harvest Sooks in Maryland within the specified size limit…if not, my son who is commercial waterman is in a heap a trouble along with his commercial buyers and I would also be a party as I have helped him on occasion.

Md has different class licenses, Va. might too, some classes allow females to a certain bushel limit, might even be seasonal not sure. Here, we can harvest females that are not egged up, our size limit for all crabs is 4 1/2" which is too small in my opinion. My area is near an inlet with higher salt content, mostly #2's and females (3's)
Problem I have is the schools of summer Dogfish and several rays that have nothing to do but hunt blue crabs all day and night. Really hurts the catch when they show up.

Boiling crabs is taboo around these parts... steaming only. Down south "boils" are tradition...
