Wausau man attempts record breaking paddle down the WI River.
The record now stands at 5 days 2 hours and 19 min. This record has stood for 30 years.

On this attempt, he will vie for the overall record, aiming to paddle from Lac Vieux Desert Lake near Land O’ Lakes, all the way down to the confluence of the Mississippi River in Prairie du Chien, in less than four days, two hours and 22 minutes.

The current record has stood unbeaten for 30 years.

“I’m the type of person, when I hear something like that, I think, well, maybe I could do it,” Nevitt said. “And when that thought enters my head, it’s hard to get it out.”

The whole voyage is around 424 miles, an exact number Nevitt is looking to clarify.

What does he win? It would be more of a challenge to paddle up it rather than down. laugh

He's gonna need a bunch of peanut butter sammiches so he doesn't have to stop for lunch... grin

Setting the record, I guess that's just his goal. And I think the article said he has to portage around 26 dams.
The timing thing must just be when he Is actually in the water. Since no one can do 424 miles in 4 days when you have to portage around all those days. And the article did say he was going to take a few sleep breaks along the way. I would think night paddling on the river would be a little sketchy.

That's 4.3 miles per hour, if he doesn't stop over the 4 days.

depending on how high the water is right now , the current can be running at 2-3 mph

I would be interested in the exact details of it but I would sort of assume a support crew ,safety boat , truck with trailer or enough people to portage the support boat and bring fuel.

so all he does is paddle , drink and eat a little.

I have an uncle who is actually a month younger than I am that did a 100 mile race running , they push themselves to a weird place where he was hallucinating they run for like 30-34 hours it is nuts

it definitely pushes what a human can do

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

According to the article his wife is going to follow by road, and he plans on sleeping in his truck. There was no other talk about any support crew.
This is a one-man racing kayak, so it probably doesn't weigh much.

I paddled from Lac Vieux Desert to Prarie du Chien one summer. I sure didn't set any records but had a great trip. The dams which you need to portage around make it tough.
