think I will retire a 25 year old combo
earlier this year I bought a Okuma Med fast spinning
https://okumafishingusa.com/collections/rods/products/dead-eye-classic-a-series-rods

I found the Okuma Avenger ABF-3000 reel that felt really good at a local bait shop and gave him some business then found the rod at Fleet farm as he didn't have anything that felt right

I caught a sale on the Avenger ABF-3000 reels at Amazon paid almost half what I paid for the first one so I got a second really like that reel

my first thought is a second of the Okuma rods , but I am thinking ask yall what you like in a Med-Fast rod , I would like to stay at or under $100

so what is your favorite rod in this?

I was one review of a rod , strong enough to take a 20 pounder but sensitive enough to catch bait fish. that about sums is up.

the reel maxes out at 18 pounds of drag so take that into consideration.

this is the rod I paired the first reel with I was fishing it yesterday and I like it a lot , just also wondering what else is out there that I should go find and see how it feels.

The real question is, what do you want to do for you? If you’re snapping spoons, or fish and lipless, or using blade baits I highly recommend the extra fast Tara T7 from Falcon Rods. You just barely twitch the tip and your lures are extremely responsive to that. If you’re lobbing live bait, you want slower action. If you’re dragging leeches and crawlers for down run, walleyes in the river, longer medium action is best suited.

Part of the problem for me is that I set up specific Rods for specific needs and that’s the reason why I own so dang many

Take a look at Grandt rods made in Chicago. I have 3 and they are the best I have used. Little more than $100 though. Each blank is tested to determine where the eyes are located. mike

wacky rig
jig and minnow , leach , worm
meps spinner
slip bobber
berkly flickershad
ned rig
possibly some spoons
some cat fish rigs for channels nothing to huge usually some variation on a Carolina rig
mostly all casting very little trolling

my general thought is I can change the retrieve and action I have the rod to get the presentation I want , but I want to feel what is at the end of the line.

I think your on the right track with the rods you are using.I mostly fish Walleyes or Yellow Perch. My Walleye rods are Medium/Light with a fast tip 7' one piece Fenwicks.I mostly jig the Walleyes. These rods are also good for bass and all around fishing. For Perch I use 8' Fly rods with small spinning reels on them.I can feel the slightest bite with them. All my reels are Pfluegers.

I have a 7 foot fenwick , i broke the last inch of the tip and replaced it but I like that rod a lot as well

the 6'6" medium 2 peice is what I am thinking of retiring never really loved the feel with it and it stays rigged as a slip bobber pole most of the time , the reel is feeling it's age not so smooth , and not instant reverse
