Once the tread goes out on the bottom and or any of the steel toe is exposed I gotta replace them. Company rules .The non skid on the barges and boat decks eat the tread up pretty quick and since I'm always having to climb in stuff or on my knees fishing stuff so the leather on the toe gets ate away pretty quick .

Talk to lotta guys out here on the matter and most boots wear out about the same if your doing the same work. Eveyone just finds the cheapest thing that fits policy and just go with that. No point in spending big bucks when they wear out about the same in the same places.

Don't help finding my size is a pain .6EE mens is kinda hard to come buy not going the custom route ...twmped to start thing some of the women's ones but the withe is the problem there .... Anyhow these Justin drillers are like $150-$180 a pair they usually have my size ,break in quick, and are like slippers ,.... Thinking about trying to use some of the rubber spray on steel toe protection but idk.

Tried ariets because there supposed to be a nicer boot ... $230 and busted the side out of them in three days

The army mechanic boots are much better in trend wear and have nice support but there lace ups on which are a bit of a no no out here . Also the lil vent holes in the side keep your feet wet constantly.

Might try something else down the line but finding my size is the problem.... And sorry whites and a lot of the more northern style work boots I been recommended just wouldn't fit down here ... Also the whole deal about them getting redone under warranty wouldn't help much unless I had multiple pairs

Should be able to get them re soled wolf dog. Find a cobbler or whatever nearby that will put new soles on them, or a boot company that will do it. Makes sense if the soles wear out, but should be able to find someone that does soles! Could be a new business venture for you!

6EE! My son might have some crabbing boots that could work, but he eats through those chasing frogs. lol


Good luck finding a decent boot that stands up to the rigors of the work you do. And if you find a good pair, buy ten.

They're too small for the elementary kids,he might be able to bring them to a daycare..

Got any goodwill type stores around that you could donate them to? Post them cheap or free on a local fb yardsale group?

Can't help with use for them after, but my buddy works on trains in the local chemical plant here and goes through boots about the same time frame. Same issue, non skid and all the grating chews them up and kicking against stuff, walking in ballast, climbing on and off stuff wears through the toes.

He does the protective top cap stuff but still goes through them every 6-8 months.

why are lace up boots a no-no on a tug?

is it a speed of getting them on when they call general quarters and you were in the rack?

I don't know the rules, but I'd want kick-off shoes if I worked on the water.

Pour a beer in one of them and look for the instructions on the heel to pour it out. If that works, you'd pass the LBJ test of intelligence.

Sell them on Etsy or Ebay or bookface as Vintage. You will be amazed what some people pay for stuff like that. Same with an old wore out pair of jeans with holes in em.

Our ranch hands use them by cutting off the bottom and sewing the toe back to the heel part and use them to carry fence staples, ties and fencing tools. run your belt through the mule ears and wear it like a holster. Very little gets wasted or thrown away on a ranch.

Heck, my SIL sells used bras.....I bet those boots will sell!

I'll second what Danvee mentioned on turning them into mini buckets for fencing staples or anything else .

they do water insertion jumps with lace ups on from the chinook , that way you still have boots when you get to shore
what some call a 30-30 jump , up to 30 feet and 30mph jump out of the back of the helo into the water.

I would figure it has less to do with going over board and more to do with other hazards.

I saw a fence with a boot on every fence post once.

They are still quality leather that could have a few functions like wooden stretcher tips as hinges.

Could be Pete, might be like you said, put on in a a hurry or too dumb to tie them and be a trip hazard, lol.


Just be my preference I could kick them off if I fell overboard.
