Parents should be responsible for feeding their own children, I paid for my kids to eat and I am not interested in paying for other people's kids to eat or to attend college. The idea that hungry children can't learn is a myth. There were plenty of hungry children during the great depression and they learned just fine.

Congratulations on the retirement, sticking it out that long certainly took some grit.

As far as feeding kids, if kids are legally compelled to be there then they should be fed. You shouldn't force a kid to attend school with threat of force then also not make sure they're fed.

This I believe

Congrats on your retirement

NY just passed , I believe, a rule that EVERYONE gets free lunch, I may be wrong but I think it included free breakfast....

We had to bring lunch or buy it... 35 cents for the cafeteria lunches, 2 cents for milk if you rolled your own, ate a LOT of PBJ,s

My daughter quit teaching last year, couldn't stand the administration, the parents or most of the kids anymore....

Every day is Saturday.
Bad thing is Saturdays are when I fix stuff at home.

Congratulations. My mom taught in the same town for 45 years, then taught adult reading for 10 more. Hung it up at 80.

I retired from public school education mainly working as a High School Guidance Counselor 16 years ago. Things were even changing for the worst back then. As everything else as we age, you will sometime in the future look back and wonder where the time went in your retirement years.

Good for you sticking it out that long. My wife is in her 29th year at our school, but still has a few years before retirement, she started there fresh out of collage. Congrats on your retirement and thanks for your service to all those kids.

Y'all stop hijacking GB's retirement thread with your school lunch debate. Go argue about that HERE instead.

Thanks for all the well wishes. It has been a great run but as many of you have stated there are a lot of other things to do in life besides work especially for an outdoors guy. I have always wanted to become SCUBA certified so that is on my short list of things to do. I am also doing a lot of care taking for my parents so I am glad to have the time to devote to them.

Looking forward to the freedom retirement offers.

You’re a better man than me, I don’t have kids and they drive me insane, my niece is the only person under 21 I can tolerate being around lol. If I had to teach, I’d be getting sued for hitting a kid in a hurry
