Rather than hijack poor Green Bay's retirement thread any further... why not start a separate thread?
I am of the belief that parents should be responsible for their children's school lunches. If they are truly poor, they are already surely receiving SNAP benefits and should therefore be able to pack the kids a bologna sandwich.
It is not my responsibility to pay for your kids lunch. Period.
IF there are kids that are being sent to school with no lunch and no money to buy a lunch, then those parents need to be reported to social services.

In a perfect world, what you said would be correct. We don't live in a perfect world and I'd rather pay for the kid's lunch, as it's not his fault.
Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

So, for those of you saying to "feed the children".... are we not just rewarding their parents bad behavior? What incentive do the parents have to become better parents if society rewards them for being bums?
No one is advocating starving children, FCOL. If a parent sends a kid to school without food or means of procuring food, sure, have the school give the kid a meal that day, and then have social services be at the kids house before the school day is out to determine why the parent(s) are being negligent and if the child needs to be removed from that situation.

IMO, ya kinda did in your OP, "It is not my responsibility to pay for your kids lunch. Period" I agree the Parents should be reported and action taken. In the interim, up to the issue being resolved, feed the kid.

Not rewarding the parents Just teaching the children that life can be better through kindness Maybe they can learn from such kindness
Not how it works though. All they learn is "we owe them" free stuff.

We're talking about me paying to feed your kid from K-12.

But it does reward the parents. Rather than using their own resources to feed their kids, they can use those same dollars to buy drugs and alcohol........or other toys they may want. Back during the 'pandemic', when many schools were not in session.........the food was sent directly to the student's homes, in sufficient quantities for a week at a time and no controls on who ate it. Not if they are held accountable, that to me is paramount, accountability. If they're not held accountable I agree. On the flipside, if the child would be taken from the crappy Parents and put into the system, who's buying their lunch then?

Ang, ya didn't mention the K thru 12 in the OP. What we seem to have here is a failure to communicate. Also, I have no issues with feeding a child K thru the age of when they can find employment if need be. I started, like most of us did back in the day, mowing lawns and a paper route at 9. I don't think that happens much today and by the time the situation with the Parents is resolved, a day or two won't cut it. JMHO

On the flipside, if the child would be taken from the crappy Parents and put into the system, who's buying their lunch then? The taxpayer still, temporarily, until foster parents are found. Most kids in the system DO go to foster homes and not group homes in long run you know. Still better than paying for some loser's three kids' lunches for 13 years x 60% of the kids in the school. And honestly, if 6 out of 10 parents are letting the taxpayer pay for their kid's school lunches, how many of them do you think would allow their kids to be taken away by social services, versus starting to pack them lunches?
