What about paying school taxes when you don't have kids in school? That's a bigger issue if you ask me. Property and school taxes are wealth taxes. We have already payed for the scumbag parents education or lack of, and now are paying for their kids education or lack of. This is proof that public education is a failure. I’m in favor of feeding kids who have POS parents, but most will probably end up leeching on the system. My daughter in law teaches in an inner city school, many students have asked her,” why do we have to learn this stuff, we are going to live on welfare like our parents.”

In a perfect world, what you said would be correct. We don't live in a perfect world and I'd rather pay for the kid's lunch, as it's not his fault. X2! I could not sit idle and let a youngin go hungry. It's not they're fault they have bad folks. I'm obviously pretty conservative, but I am okay with paying taxes to make sure American children can eat and get a good education. I believe that's the right thing to do and believe that it benefits all of us. Keith

I’m in favor of feeding kids who have POS parents, but most will probably end up leeching on the system. My daughter in law teaches in an inner city school, many students have asked her,” why do we have to learn this stuff, we are going to live on welfare like our parents.” If their bellies are full every day despite their parents selling their food stamps for drug money, and nothing is done to their parents for neglecting them, how could they ever learn to be anything other than a leech on society? It's a self-fulfilling prophecy that we just keep propagating. They learn young that if their parents do nothing to better themselves, nothing bad happens. They send them to school with no lunch, and no money, but yet they eat as well as any other student. There no are no repercussions for the kids for not bringing lunch, and no repercussions for the parents for allowing that to happen. If we insist on feeding kids without lunches, than they absolutely should NOT be getting the same lunch as everyone else. They should get the cheapest lunch possible, whether that be a scoop of white rice, a bowl of soup, or a bologna sandwich. Even though it is not their fault, they should still be made to feel ostracized. They should watch little Johnny eating a slice of pizza or a burger. Why? Because then they're gonna go home and they're gonna say something. The vast majority of these "parents" that are taking advantage of the free lunch programs are not unable to feed their kids. They just, as White mentioned above, would rather spend their money on booze, drugs, tattoos or video games. If the kids come home every day fussing about how it's not fair that so and so gets pizza and they get rice, they might eventually get their parents to start giving them some lunch money. Beyond that, kids that are a bit older will quickly come to realize that they're not entitled to what everyone else has, but only being given what's needed out of charity.

I deposit money into my boys school account. All the kids get taxpayer provided breakfast and lunch if they need it, and I’m ok with that.
They have to fill out paperwork to prove it and I think it goes against the money they get for snap or whatever it’s called.

It might not though, Delaware as liberal and insane as they are. Do try to limit fraud and waste. But, I’m ok with kids getting fed. Not their fault the parents are poor. We don’t have a lot of welfare queens in my district.

That's one of the most heartless things I've ever read. With that said lol, Ang, we are beyond doubt at opposite ends of the spectrum on this subject matter so agree to disagree. I'm gonna rig some cat poles and listen to a ballgame.

LOL I may have worded that a bit harshly. I remember being about 11 years old. We lived in a small town, where everyone knew everyone. My mom was divorced, and worked full time but still qualified for a small amount of food stamps. She was ashamed to use them, but did. Because I knew that she found it shameful, I did as well. I remember her trying to discreetly hand the cashier the food stamps and remember thinking "God, I hope none of my friends see this". I decided right then that I would NEVER be on welfare. And I never was. Although there were days I went hungry when I was a young adult and no doubt would have qualified. I ate a whole lot of Ramen. My point is... people SHOULD be ashamed to expect the taxpayer to take care of them. And if they grow up in a house that tells them they are entitled to government money, and then go to school that reinforces that.... then who is to tell them that it is something to even be ashamed of??? They grow up thinking it is right, and just, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Someone needs to tell these kids that expecting others to pay their way in life is NOT something to be proud of.
