Got a light tooth ache last Thursday, got an appointment made for Monday as soon as I could. Boy
Am I glad I did. As I write this I can barely keep myself from going nuts the pain is Crazy!!
Anyhow if it comes down to it what would you have done? Pull the tooth or root canal?

My dentist once told me that he would gladly take my $800 for a root canal many years ago. Then I can pay him again to pull it years down the road. That molar got pulled.

plus they will put you on antibiotics till the pain goes down,before they work on it! pull it!

You may be able to crush a Tylenol or something and place it right on the tooth to take the edge off for the night so you can sleep.

How old are you? Think this through.....

How about talk to the dentist on Monday. Not a bunch of alleged trappers on the internet. Although, I believe there is a doctor or two here, one may be a dentist.

Sounds like your dentist was telling you to get it pulled. I or at least suggesting it strongly.

The old question is a good one but a better one is how much money do you have.
Pulling is about one fifth the cost of a RC and cap.

Get a cotton swap and soak it in a bottle of real vanilla and then swab the tooth area, the pain will temporarily go away, clove will work to but not as well as the vanilla.

Have had lots of these and only had two pulled out of them because the problem was to deep to save the tooth, if it's at the gum level or higher you have a better chance of saving the too, if they x-ray and say its below the gum level, just pull it !!

If it wasn't a molar I would be doing a root canal. A molar I would have them remove the tooth.

Yea my greedy (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) dentist (which all dentists are IMO) wants to remove a filling that has been in place since 1999 and put a cap on that tooth. Which has no guarantee to save the tooth down the road. Saying well if it ever starts to decay under that filling it will be into the root. Well I think I will save the $1,400 for something that is really no better of a guarantee that it may or may not be better. It is my far back molar if it causes me issues I will just have them pull the thing for a whole lot less money.

I've had one root canal done and that was probably 25 or more years ago. With a crown it was around a thousand bucks. I haven't had any problems with it so far. I was relatively young then and didn't want to lose a tooth. As I've aged ive had few pulled. Local guy only charges around 125.00 or that's what he charged last year. I don't even want to know what a root canal would cost these days. Might be better off just getting an implant.

I was going to cost me a grand just to put the screw in for a transplant on my last molar I had pulled due to a cracked cap done years before which then led to a broken root, then wait for 90 days for it to take to the bone

Told the doc just pull it then I will be even in the back, still cost 500 bucks !!

Yard it out and be done with it. I had a broken molar that got infected and put me in a ton of pain. Plucking it out with a leatherman did the trick

Have a root canal done if the tooth is salvageable. Pulling the tooth will instantly put more pressure on the adjacent ones and they'll start decaying much faster, plus it will cause them to shift, so ultimately it will be more expensive unless you're planning to die soon. Implants may be problematic or even impossible if you have bone density or inflammation issues in the jaw bone, so it's always better to try to save the tooth unless it's cracked along the root or there is a chronic septic process around the roots causing damage to the jaw bone, gums, adjacent teeth and your heart.

BP pulling it was nothing compared to the pain it was causing, it was immediate relief. And I was in a super remote camp at the time, so getting to a dentist wasn’t going to be an option. I felt like I was gonna lose my mind, I was in so much pain I couldn’t sleep, and I had to eat 1,000mg of ibuprofen to go to work (it still hurt, but it took the edge off just enough that I could focus). So a leatherman is what I had available, a little whiskey helped too afterwards. I did learn a fresh hole in your gums isn’t the most comfortable place to pack with Copenhagen lol

I just had a root canal this year. With insurance it wasn't that expensive.

You'll need an implant or something to keep the rest of your teeth from shifting if you get it pulled.
