I was watching season 11 of Alone and this guy from Labrador CA was using a long pole with a snare on the end. He would walk up on a spruce hen and snare it. He even snared them out of the trees. Anyone ever tried that? I have never got that close to a grouse to try that.
Some of the participates were shear genius with their skills. And some were pure idiots. A new season starts next week on the History Channel.

I looked at the TV guide and it doesn't say new. So, then I flipped on the TV and checked it out and it say's NEW but it's the series about Australia and that was season 10 I believe. Season 12 Is in the Karoo desert in South Africa. And I think that starts next week.
Season 11 was in the Arctic.

When I was up in Canuck country you could walk up to all small game and kick'em if ya had a mind too. So I would think snaring them is plausible.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

This was pretty neat he snared serval out of the trees and 4 or 5 off the ground. I remember when I trapped In Canada, I killed 5 spruce hens with my single shot 410 with 5 shots and a male grouse actual came at me in a puffed-up challenge.

I saw that, Beav. It was really intriguing. Zim has made some comments about how easy they are to approach.
I normally get addicted to Alone right away each season, but not sure I want to look at a desert. Not at all appealing, but who knows. I'll give it a chance.

Steve Ebbert snared ptarmigan out on the Aleutians Islands to transplant them on other islands. The were doing in the spring before they nested. I saw video and pictures of it.

As a kid we used to use a fly rod and snare chipmunks and drop them in a cream can to be relocated. I could see the same concept working on Spruce Chickens. They aren't that bright.
I have nothing clever to put here.

The spruce grouse up here are stunned. you can walk right up to them and bop them on the head. That being said, I'm pretty sure they're illegal game to kill. here in Nova scotia we can go after ruffed grouse, which are the polar opposite. I bust them in tree lines and they fly backwards into the forest and i rarely even get a shot at them.

They were legal to kill in the Arctic. But they couldn't kill any Grey Jays or Pine Marten. I see the new Alone Chapiter 12 where they are in the Karoo desert. In South Africa. I didn't watch it but I recorded it.
