Mud, you & BP are getting a lot of kudos on the Canadian site. If guys like you are asking questions about their grades, FHA should take a look.

Shakeyjake- your comment seems a bit odd. Not quite sure I understand what you are saying.

The pelts have been graded and lotted. Catalogs are printed and buyers are there inspecting the samples. FH surely can’t go back and regrade the beaver at this point.

Nor would I expect them to do anything Wissmiss. My point was “something” changed. I have no idea what. And I don’t think anything malicious happened. Just something or someone changed how they see things and in MY case it was dramatic. That’s all.

Thank you to the guys on that Canadian forum. I have no idea what’s being said , but I’m glad I took pictures of at least some of the fur this year.

I’m not questioning that something changed. I was asking about Shakeyjake comment about final audit, etc.

Basically if a tag isn’t scanned properly the audit will pick it up. Not any huge changes, but there’ll be probably be some.

There’s a couple guys that know you and one that’s had dealings with you. Your fur knowledge is held in high regard. It probably wouldn’t hurt to send an email, a phone call might be tough as I’m assuming they’re a bit busy.

That’s high praise from guys up north. Please thank them for me. It’s nice to hear.

If i remember right, the last time they graded beaver damaged was when the only market was for hatters where this damage really doesn't matter. Probably a sign.

I believe Ken’s been the beaver grader for a while, but don’t quote me on that.
Dave Bosma has an excellent beaver grading video that’s been posted on the tribute thread. Consistency.

Sometimes certain grades as shuffled aside, especially the XD beaver and XD rats as "sold pt" once a price is confirmed. There should be a different number assigned.
I see 20 dark beaver in those grades and the damages are not really colour graded.

Dark beaver and rats do not have to be dyed in the tanning process and when used in garments do not leach our when they get wet,,,a bonus in winter gonklets

I have to agree with some of the other people that the grading on a few speices seems a bit off this time around. My beaver all grade western so my grades aren't ever great. For me the muskrat grading doesn't make much sense. Somehow 167 out of 326 muskrats ended up in the same lot, and 240 in 2 lots in different consecutive strings. Seems highly unlikely but okay. Also I didnt have a single muskrat grade over I-II. That many muskrats and no selects or I. I normally have 5% selects and at least that many I's. Seems like they down graded everything becuase that is all they can sell. The can't sell selects and big sizes so grade everything to what they can sell. End of rant.

Serious question for wissmiss, what does the below grade on mink mean. I have never heard of a Blue mink. Can you explain what that means? I see only 2 strings that are blue grade.

if these are the ones shown in your ytube clips it takes a mid Dec rat to make it into a Grade 1-2 and your were earlier than that
as they are grading if all the same they end up in the other 1200-1400 rats in that lot....rats are handled once....it is like a Vegas card dealer in the rat grading area..shake for leather texture, ..flip the tail and deal to the bin..done in 7 seconds
That Red River boarder separates the beaver grades....and you do see the hair quality change with the alkaline waters and genetics of the western beaver. The under fur also does not matt the same as eastern beaver for the felt trade

I’m thinking that when the sale is over a week from now, all your foxes will be accounted for, including the 7 that are “ missing” now. In my opinion, they just haven’t been scanned yet. Happens in the rush to get the samples ready.

I counted all my fox in the different lots. The missing seven fox are lotted, they are in there. They're just not showing the correct amount on my lots tab. It's showing seven less than are actually there.

So yeah, they should be accounted for after the sale.

Eh...wot?
