With the recent protests in the news, and the threads here on T-man, it has me wondering.....who all here has attended a protest? Not a rally in support of someone/something, (for example going to a trump rally) but rather, an actual protest in opposition to someone/something. (Maybe that depends on your point of view).

I've attended 3....back a few years ago the state legislature was considering some new gun laws, and about 400 fine folks showed up and packed the capital in opposition to the proposed legislation.

I've attended a local anti-trump protest with the kids that was tiny, when we first learned the first amendment, where I had them each make and hold a non controversial sign (dogs are better than cats, etc). I would have rather not been seen with that crowd, but teaching the lesson that sometimes you've got to do things that other people might not like or approve of was part of the lesson, and it was the only small protest around.

And we attended the no king's thing yesterday, where I held a pro-gun sign.

All my experiences were good. All peaceful.

No, but I tend to avoid putting myself in positions that can become negative. Generally that includes large crouds and events. Especially if they include having to walk through a metal detector.

I don't put political or gun related stickers on my vehicles either. Simple things like not being out after midnight in bad areas avoid having problems before they start.

So you held a pro gun sign and were with a group that largely is anti 2nd amendment, anti conservative, anti law, anti American etc. Please make it make sense but I'm sure you can't.

No, but I thought I may have to support my grandkids when they heard that skittles were going to be banned.

you'll have to explain the first one...makes no sense to me. now, if you would have attended a dog show and had the kids holding signs that cats are better than dogs, then I could see it...assuming the kids actually THOUGHT that cats are better. (otherwise, it would just be teaching them to blindly follow their Leader's [YOU!] viewpoints)

kind of interesting that 2/3 of your lifetime protests were directed against Making America Great Again. not surprising, but interesting.

I attended several protests of treaty rights abuses (spearing spawning walleyes) in WI in the 1980’s. The way the press distorted the protests made the effort counterproductive.

After reading loosegoose' posts for a year or so on Tman.....2/3 of his attended protests being against making America great again is NOT surprising....

None, I don't go into these one or the others, it is only trouble waiting to grow, hence the media being there !

You expose your weak side even now saying when you learned the first amendment, you waited that long ?, then give give your kids a sign that makes no sense, which is most gatherings any way, being done on emotion rather then any facts.

You see how this goes even in a written dominion, doesn't really matter what one say's or does, there is always someone willing to tear it down, hence the heart ache in gatherings !!

I just hate to call them demonstration's or protests as they just usually always turn into chaos, which does neither any good !!

In the late 1960's I lived for a short time one block from San Jose University in CA. I heard a large anti-Vietnam war protest taking place at the school with police sirens wailing. There is no way I was going anywhere near that melee. That is the closes I came to a protest.

You are a good, involved and interesting Dad. Teaching your kids about freedom. Fine work.
