What you are saying is actually correct for FRONT sights, not rear sights.

All adjustments to front sights, both windage and elevation, will move the point of impact in the opposite direction of the sight adjustment.

here is my crude drawing to make this make sense to people

your line of sight is a laser strait line
the gun needs to be angled slightly to get the bullet up through your line of sight and then back down
that is near zero and far zero
with a 22lr and a 1 1/2 inch height over bore zero at 25 yards , a little high but less than a squirrels head high in between and back to about zero about 50 yards

the rear sight if adjustable is a protractor setting the angle of the rifle in relationship to your line of sight. raising the rear sight angles the gun mor muzzle up , in reference to the line of sight.
military ladder sights are an excellent example of this you can see the graduations and you can see they get farther apart for 300, 400, 500 ect

you can adjust rear or front sight on some guns and only one or the other on some guns
what you are looking at is if I lower the front sight I actually change the angle of the gun higher
if I raise the front sight I change the angle of the gun lower

but first I would need to know what base type , use , voltage , current , heat ratings and some other stuff.

the assumption that all light bulbs are 120vac Edison base makes it sound simple but assumptions are no good , the rule is broken as often as it is kept.

Ok. I get it now. It’s the front sight that should follow the bullet while the rear sight moves in the opposite direction of where the bullet is hitting. Sorry again!

No. You move the rear sight in the same direction you want the bullet to go. Move the front sight in the opposite direction.

Not the ideal situation, freestanding @ 50yds but this is how it went down.

1. Aim was top of the red dot. (Was just hoping to get it on the tin)
2, 3,& 4, were red dot aim after 6 clicks up on rear sight, 3 clicks right.
5. 3 clicks down.
6. 2 clicks left
7. 1 click right, 2 clicks up.

Get the bench out Friday and do it again

You really should get on a bench and shoot three-round groups to sight-in. That will give you a much better idea of where it is shooting. It will also tell you if your .22 likes that particular ammo. If it does (nice tight groups), get it shooting where you want and stick with that ammo.

what red dot is it ?

IMC Inches Minutes clicks

turn the dot intensity down as light as you can see it still this makes for a finer dot

at 25 yards ever 1/4 inch is a minute at 50 yards 1/2 inch is a minute

most red dots are 1minute clicks a few are half minute clicks

shoot a good group of 3 measure from POA point of aim to POI Point of impact

a little figuring and your next group can generally be at POA=POI
