It's good. to be honest the last few days I have been as friendly as a rabid coon so easily could have taken it wrong.

I understand the emotions and am conflicted myself. On one side it's nice to have land everyone can use and enjoy. Not all locked down by the rich. On the other the government has been stealing and selling or giving land away from the start.

A logical quote from someone from a state that doesn't even allow nonresident trapping. Par for the course.

If you knew Steven at all, you would know he's very much in favor of allowing NR trapping in MN. And then in the next post you tell everyone to stay home and not come to "your" west, LOL.

In Nebraska the gubmint is good at using public money to buy land, then lease it out for grazing to make more money from it. They're good at burning grassland about time for ground nesting birds to start nesting. Just so there's better pasture for the cows.
In Cherry County there is Halsey National Forest. Most of it was grassland to begin with. Then they went in and cut out all the cedar trees and russian olive and burned them. All to make better pasture for the grazing leases. Using taxpayer money to buy land then leasing it out for grazing rights. Just not right.

Exactly! Our population is not booming other then illegals. There's plenty of city housing not being utilized, y'all wanna put them up, put'em up there. I'm not taking the argument for our Grandbabies cause let's face it, they're France wavin the white flag. Let's keep what we got, keep as much freedom as long as we can till we kick it!

X2! Here in Ohio the DNR has shifted to Lodges, camping, hiking, bird watching, etc. Those of us that hunt, trap, fish, pay for our license, permits, stamps etc but they fund their anti agenda with our money. Why doesn't the hikers and such have to buy permits to fund their own adventures. I'm all for everyone enjoying nature how they want to but dang if I don't see the direction they're going.

The nay sayers on this thread are thinking boy who cries wolf but when it touches them, takes food off their table, they'll be crying wolf.

I,m looking forward to you guys getting down to zero population growth. Gonna be hard to fund those two ponzi schemes SSA and Medicare without increasing numbers of working contributors.

I'm in my mid forties, I've assumed since my early twenties that I would never see any SSA or Medicare money. Frankly I'm surprised that ponzi scheme has gone as long as it has.

You don't want hikers and bird watchers buying permits. At least not for DoW land. Then they'll have an argument to have a day in wildlife policy.

You're not going to get legislature to pass anything on making hikers get a permit. Been there done that

Idaho's senators have come out against this bill. It is a good thing since we are selling our state lands off to the rich as fast as possible. It is getting harder and harder to access Priest Lake because the state lots are being sold to the rich for million dollar homes. Some of the places I used to ice fish for lake trout are now unaccessable, unless you have a snowmobile, because the nearest access is to far to walk. Keep our public lands public.

It will be about more than SSA and Medicare, the basis of our economy and fiat currency requires population growth whether we like it or not.

It's good to have public land for public use. How much is enough and how much is too much?

MN is in the neighborhood of 24 percent. That's enough.

That's a shame. I wanted to buy some cheap Fed land in Nevada so they would finally let me trap bobcats

Ain’t over yet. Sounds like he’s modifying it and continuing to push but I still don’t trust him and know this is just the beginning and sadly this is likely to keep coming up so long as he’s in power. It’d be one thing if they provided a map of the lands they’d like to sell but he says that’s too complicated. I see the Sportsmen’s alliance is on it hard too with emails and info.

Happy trapping! ScottW

All I’m hearing from anybody that agrees with this proposal language is “I hate too much access for hunting, fishing, trapping, etc.” “It doesn’t affect me so I don’t care” lol how selfish, lazy, and just plain dumb

Why is this the first move if we need housing? Dirt, look up how many acres are owned by foreign corporations or foreign governments. We can’t guarantee they’re paying taxes, so it would seem we could solve two problems there.

Federal agencies already have a process for buying and selling land. Typically, land management agencies make moves in the name of increased public access. These processes allow input from the public rather than unilateral decision-making.

Any other terrible excuses for giving up our freedoms?

Lol here we go again, Danny. I would dare to say that allowing the federal government to sell public lands in the name of ‘reducing our federal debt’ would be a lot like giving up liberty for temporary safety. Even though you’d be losing liberty with no gain since the money from the sale would never be used to pay down the federal debt.

I’ll concede that I’m okay with SOME lands being sold. I’m sure there’s acreage in every state that could be approached thoughtfully. But how is selling off millions of acres the first choice for reducing debt, finding space for housing, increasing tax base, and so on? There’s NO other options?

It’s incredibly lazy, selfish, and dumb for any number of outdoorsmen to support this and hope to continue the things they love. And if you’re too old to care? Consider future generations. My son will be an outdoorsman and I hope he gets to enjoy the public lands like I do.

I don’t care. I’m not going to advocate one way or the other if I can’t use it anyway.
