Seen a post about treating foxes and coyotes with mange some place where you call into to report sightings. Then they linked it to rodent poison? I’m betting theres a donation angle associated with this do gooder outfit. They mentioned mites but the poison part threw me they will try anything to scam a buck out of people.

I don’t see how eating poisoned rodents could possibly cause mange. But maybe I’m missing something?
Eh...wot?

Maybe as a weaker animal they're less able to survive mange?

You guys (Carl and Keith) are assuming fox and coyotes can recover from mange without intervention. I don't know about other types of fox and coyotes but I've read where red fox rarely do.
Therefore, a weakened immune system would not be a factor, at least not in reds and I suspect in other canines as well.
Eh...wot?

After standing down wind from a few poor yotes that looks like poodles and smelling the nasty rot I doubt survival was an option but it was upper MI mid winter and there it was.

I know that smell all too well. Mange usually starts on the tails of red fox here, sometimes the back legs. Even with only a small amount of hair loss on their tails that "mange stink" is noticeable and it only gets worse as it spreads.
Eh...wot?

Therefore, a weakened immune system would not be a factor, at least not in reds and I suspect in other canines as well. The mites that cause mange are present on a large percentage of canines. The numbers of mites are small enough they aren't noticed until the immune system is compromised enough that the mites have a population boom. Keith

I’ve always seen mange come through in waves its here for a few years then it’s gone for a while or in some areas but not in others.

Keith Studies I've read indicated that may be true of Demodetic mites that live in hair follicles. Sarcoptes scabiei mites, the ones that cause Sarcoptic mange, are much more common and infestation is always more severe. I do not think they live on host species without causing mange like Demodex mites do.

Some poisons, and other med's like Ivermectin will help cure Mange.
