Hello. Plan on taking some Boy Scouts canoeing there in 2027. Have never been. Plan on going with a private outfitter and not the Scout camp for more flexibility and better price. Any and all helpful advice is appreciated. Thank you for your time.

If has been a rainy spring in 2027, take plenty of bug spray!!! And have fun.

Therma-Cells are your friend. Earlier in the year (Late May-mid June) is typically better fishing and less severe T-storms. Remember, this is wilderness so you are on your own. By 2027 the Beaver airplanes will likely not exist anymore.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Pack your bags then unpack your bags and take half of what you thought you needed. You will thank me. Every ounce matters when packing gear on portages. Limit your fishing tackle to a handful of fish catching lures rather than a whole tackle box.

make sure the outfitter knows how many adults and youth you have AND that Adults and youth CAN NOT sleep in the same tents together
when we went in the 90s I was a scout they may have mentioned it but the outfitter didn't listen

we learned this our first days paddle in setting camp while we should have had 2 youth tents with 3 in each and an adult tent

well we ended up 5 across in the youth tent like sardines , and 2 leaders and the one leaders son in the other tent

"By 2027 the Beaver airplanes will likely not exist anymore." What do you mean by this? I have hours in them in the '90s.....jk

Pay close attention to the route you choose to take. Some portages aren't suitable for younger kids. I would pay attention to the lakes you want to hit and with the associated portages. Also be aware that the easier trips campsites, can fill up early in the day. Therma cells a must and as was said early June or late May for the best fishing. Good luck.

in the Midwest scout camp now means sad damaged run down equipment at most of the places we were , I haven't been a scout leader in a few years but BSA was going bankrupt and it showed.
been the experience I and other scouters in the area had

I don't know if cheaper will be any better , but not going to an BSA base at least gets you options and you can pick and choose what you want to pay for.

My advice would to stop just short of it and hang out in the Superior National Forest.
