Ever now and again, like a blind squirrel finding a nut, the good guys win! Victory: Sen. Lee Surrenders on Plan to Sell Off America’s Public Lands WASHINGTON— After massive outrage, Sen. Mike Lee announced late today that he is pulling his provision for a huge sell-off of America's public lands from the Republican megabill. “Good riddance to the biggest attack on public lands in history,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity. “Selling off public lands remains overwhelmingly out of step with the values of nearly all Americans and it should never have even been considered. This is a huge victory for the many millions of people across this country who love our public lands and want vibrant wildlife populations and a healthy environment.” The Center ran full-page ads in the Denver Post and Salt Lake Tribune blasting Lee’s measure, which initially aimed to sell off roughly 3 million acres of public lands in 11 Western states. The Center for Biological Diversity has been actively involved in blocking wolf hunts and advocating for wolf protections, particularly in states like Idaho and Montana, where aggressive wolf-killing laws have been enacted. In 2021, the organization, along with other conservation groups, filed a notice of intent to sue the state of Idaho over its new wolf-hunting laws, which posed a serious risk to federally protected species like lynxes and grizzly bears. The Center has also taken legal action to challenge state efforts to reduce wolf protections, such as in Washington, where it successfully blocked attempts by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife to kill wolves in response to conflicts with livestock. The Center for Biological Diversity has been actively involved in protecting the Canada lynx and the Iberian lynx, both of which are endangered species. The organization has launched several lawsuits and legal actions to prevent trapping and other threats to these species. For example, the Center has sued the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for permitting trapping that harms Canada lynx, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Lol J! I really don't think anyone "picked" a strange bedfellow. Dirt could have shared articles from pro hunting, trapping etc, sources but chose to equate the WIN as, if you support the failure of Lee's provision, that equals tree hugger and that's not the case. Personally, IDC if obummer, hillary and biden teamed up to stop it as long as we get to keep our public land to hunt, trap, fish, camp and hike on.

The federal government owns approximately 1.2% of Ohio's total land area, which equates to around 305,502 acres out of 26.2 million acres. This places Ohio among the states with the least amount of federal land ownership.

Making it even more important that a sell-off shouldn’t occur. I guess it’s easy to not care when you have unlimited access, eh Dirt? I live next to a National Park.

And in some areas, Alaska residents can hunt and trap in National Parks. You can fish all of them. Does it upset you that you can’t hunt some of the National parks? The state of Alaska is 60+% federal ownership and almost 15% state ownership, meaning the entire state is over 75% public land. It’s such an easy argument for you to make that you don’t care if federal land is sold because you have it EVERYWHERE.

I didn't argue," I don't care." I said sell it in places that have lots of it. Especially, if it is more valuable and productive as private property. I'm just like my Senators and my former Congressman.

I'm just like my Senators and my former Congressman. Makes too much sense I don’t totally disagree. But who/what determines if it’s more productive as private land? And has that determination been made by Mike Lee? Like I’ve stated, there’s already a process in place for land sales and swaps. Not for mega sell-offs that open the door to full-scale federal land sales. I sure as heck wouldn’t trust the state of Alaska to manage private lands. They’ll do anything for a dollar, to the detriment of habitat, access, and conservation.
