You should just get the knee surgery done Dave. Your life will most likely be much better for it.

I'm going to try to hold out until late Fall before getting a knee replacement. I need to make a significant amount of money first.

Wife had hers done last aug spent 1 night in the hospital then physical therapy for a few weeks.she had hers done in platteville wisc and he's a very good surgeon came highly recommended. I know your from dubuque but I would have it done in platteville if it was me and you can do physical therapy in dubuque afterwards it's a very accommodating place.once she made her mind up to have it done had to wait 6 months to get in that's how busy he was and like mentioned do the pt it may hurt but you'll be glad you did later on.

I had total knee replacement 12 days ago. Not nearly as bad as I'd heard. They operated at 7 a.m. and I was home by 1 p.m. I'm now doing Physical Therapy at the hospital twice a week and every day at home. Gave up the walker after three days and the cane after a week. My wife had both her's done in the last 6 months and is doing great. Don't get me wrong, it's not painless, but I think knee surgery has come a long way in the last few years. You got to do the therapy, push yourself. I'm planning on trapping this fall. Good luck.

I had it done on Feb 25th. I'm doing well. I stayed overnight just to make sure everything was ok.
I had all kinds of pre surgery exercises. And I did them for 2 months. They wanted me to do 15 reps twice a day. I started out at 30 reps and went to 40 the next week and ended up doing 60 reps.
The doctor Said that's why my recovery went so well. I have my last Pt session on wed. It's more of a social thing now.
But I've been told it takes just about year to get normal. I have some bad days yet, but the good days outnumber the bad.
Get er done.

My mother had one done and the knock out drugs they use sent her into dementia.
She's never been the same same. Please look into this and ask your doctor about it.

This. I went home after surgery no problem. First days however they give you heavy pain killers, I wouldn’t be driving around or out and about with those in me. Grocery up and have yourself otherwise supplied for a home stay.

I’ve had both knees replaced. Went in to have procedure done left the same day. What ever you do please do the physical therapy, you get out what you put in! Was off work about a month. You won’t be able to get on your knees very well, it’s difficult and hurts some.

I have seen this happen twice in older people. Then others com out fine. I think it’s a risk assessment deal. Would be nice if they could pinpoint people at high risk b4 surgery. Maybe they already can…………..

I had left knee done in June a few years ago. Then on July 4th I ended up in the hospital with gall bladder surgery. Couldn't do PT for 6 weeks because of the gallbladder bladder surgery. Took me 2 years to get back to normal. I won't get the other one done. Too old now to care.

The fitter you are the better the results,,,lose weight if you should, do the pre op exercises as soon as you get an operation slot. They will get you up as soon as you wake up in recovery and start PT the next day... Take the pain meds, at least for the first few days and early PT sessions, Do the PT, at home too, push yourself but don't hurt yourself.
It's gonna hurt....do it anyway....if you don't get full flexion in 6 mos, you won't. Lots of ice early, and after PT.

Get a toilet seat extender, a pick up grabber thingee, a recliner is good for the first week to sleep in, a stand up recliner can be rented if needed. They'll get you a walker for the first couple weeks, or you can get one free from a lot of senior centers, a cane too.

You should be driving in 4 -6 weeks, depending on your work about 7-8 weeks.... .

one knee is easy, you still have your "good" one to work off of, I had both done at the same time and while challenging, I was released to work in 7 weeks...

FIND THE BEST SURGEON YOU CAN.....one that does these operations all the time and has a good team.

finally, everyone is different and results can differ, just do the work and you should be fine....

knee surgery or knee replacement

two different things , mom had both hers replaced about 5 years ago , much better now , it took about 4 months for each one to be right again

she did the first one in April and the second in September to get them both in one Medicare year

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I had one replaced in 2018. Mine was a worst case scenario due to previous surgeries on that knee. Can't judge on how long your recovery will be compared to mine, but even with problems that the doctor had with mine, I would do again. The improvement is well worth it. Don't wait, get it done soon. You will enjoy life more with the new knee.

For those of you that had it done, are you able to knee on that knee. I am thinking about trapping and kneeling.
