I read the title of the post, and my first thought was a Low Velocity .22, but you want non-lethal: A #1 foothold to restrain it, then spray paint it some garish color, and maybe a schmeer of "Gusto", then release. People that let their cats run loose to kill whatever they can find, and crap on other folks property need to be put down. (not verbally). I had a friend that I helped build a sandbox for his kids to play in, had to take it down because of all the cat crap in it.

A neighbor's cat kept urinating near my front steps in the flower beds. The smell would gag you. I asked him nicely 4 times to contain his cat to no avail. I gave him a good home and had to dig up 6 cubic feet of soil to get rid of the smell. That material would enhance A LOT of bobcat sets:)

appreciate the replies.
so, it's a little more complicated than just catching it and taking it elsewhere...our neighbor 's wife feeds them, and cares about them (enough that she has caught most of them and paid to have them spayed/neutered). They have been really good neighbors, and even sold us a slice of their ground that we needed for our new garage. they know I'm a trapper, so if that cat suddenly goes missing...
I was hoping there was a chemical compound that I could apply to dissuade it from hanging around my mulch bed

Deja Vu! I have the exact same situation. Lady feeds 12 feral cats, Husband won't let them in the house. Cage trapped them all, took them to be neutered, and released them back on the street. Wonder if she's the one calling the cops at 2 am when my Beagles go off?

Non-lethal behavioral modification. Buy the Scout X slingshot from Simpleshot.com and their clay ammo. A couple of hits will modify that cat’s habit without hurting it. Thereafter, just the sound of shooting an empty slingshot is enough to scare the rascal away. If that doesn’t work, it’ll be time to buy the steel ammo.
