Let's get it out of the way first off...

.22 LR
.22 mag
.410
20 gauge
12 gauge...

anyway...got a neighborhood cat who makes a habit of using our mulch bed for its litterbox. that, and it will tear into garbage bags if they are left out of garbage cans.

for a number of reasons, I'd prefer non-lethal means to dissuade it from those activities. (the garbage issue was solved with a big plastic can, but the mulch bed...)

anything I can use to accomplish this?

Thanks!

I read the title of the post, and my first thought was a Low Velocity .22, but you want non-lethal:
A #1 foothold to restrain it, then spray paint it some garish color, and maybe a schmeer of "Gusto", then release.
People that let their cats run loose to kill whatever they can find, and crap on other folks property need to be put down. (not verbally). I had a friend that I helped build a sandbox for his kids to play in, had to take it down because of all the cat crap in it. mad

Big Bob i agree any animal that is left outside thru the nite should be considered a wild animal and cats crush ground nesting birds as well as rabbits

.30-30?

Or you could try a motion activated sprinkler system. It might discourage Amazon delivery guys and the postman though.

A neighbor's cat kept urinating near my front steps in the flower beds. The smell would gag you. I asked him nicely 4 times to contain his cat to no avail. I gave him a good home and had to dig up 6 cubic feet of soil to get rid of the smell.

appreciate the replies.

so, it's a little more complicated than just catching it and taking it elsewhere...our neighbor 's wife feeds them, and cares about them (enough that she has caught most of them and paid to have them spayed/neutered). They have been really good neighbors, and even sold us a slice of their ground that we needed for our new garage. they know I'm a trapper, so if that cat suddenly goes missing...

I was hoping there was a chemical compound that I could apply to dissuade it from hanging around my mulch bed

Deja Vu! I have the exact same situation. Lady feeds 12 feral cats, Husband won't let them in the house. Cage trapped them all, took them to be neutered, and released them back on the street. Wonder if she's the one calling the cops at 2 am when my Beagles go off?

so, we'll see if this was a mistake or not...I removed the cat turds and gave the area a fair shot of Bobby J's coyote urine.

(maybe turned a "litter box" into a cat urine spray post. we'll see...)

Non-lethal behavioral modification. Buy the Scout X slingshot from Simpleshot.com and their clay ammo. A couple of hits will modify that cat’s habit without hurting it. Thereafter, just the sound of shooting an empty slingshot is enough to scare the rascal away. If that doesn’t work, it’ll be time to buy the steel ammo.

I wonder if there’s something that would irritate cat paws should they walk and dig in the garden?

Have you tried cayenne pepper powder? Easy to get at a reasonable price online in bulk. Had a neighbor that had a similar issue and it helped them.

appreciate all the replies!

I haven't tried cayenne (does just the smell bother them?), or those plants.

the slingshot looks like FUN!
