Picked up a drone to make scouting a bit easier, especially during the summer doing ADC work on beaver. Was practicing with it last night and took this picture.

I picked this one up on line for about $200. Local townships raied their bountys to $100/ beaver so figured I could justify it with two beavers. Happy with it so far and still learning.

Very handy for beaver work. Saves a lot of slogging and searching.

What model did you get? I've had a DJI Mavic 2 Pro for about 7 years now and a M30T for a year. Both are really great and the M30T has an outstanding camera. I've put it up at the house and checked to see if any deer were in the one field over the hill. I could count and see antlers on the deer at 3,600 feet when zoomed in. The thermal capabilities are amazing too.

Right now is the time to be looking for used models of DJI as there is a customs issue that is preventing any new Chinese drones or parts coming in. Many people are selling due to risk of having drones you can't fix or service and possibly fly due to recurring ban legislation. Some are also selling them for way more than they were new.

Great for scouting, making high resolution and up-to-date aerial maps, and countless other things.

Make sure you get your Part 107 certificate if you use it for any business related (non-hobby) things. Fines are pretty heavy and I suspect enforcement will start increasing as many legislators want to ban Chinese made drones which are far superior than anything made domestically.

Have fun and fly safe.

The cheap drone I got for Christmas should be in the Neil Young song…….”Piece of Crap”.
Any slight breeze and it’s all over the place, very hard to control.

Wind Blew, crap flew, out came the line crew

Got my boys a cheap one. Took it outside turned it on and took off. Then watched it fly off out of sight over the trees. It would not respond to commands at all.

I've thought about getting one. How much ballpark for a good functional model?

That is cool!
I had one that I bought for like 40 bucks, and I was pleased with it even though the camera was pretty bad and it didn't have a very long range. It worked decent until one day it just up an' died. I had crashed it a few times though whistle

I dont know if you can get it because of made in China - but the DJI mini 2 I paid $600 for last year included three batteries, charging bank, controller for phone and some additional stuff. I have been pleased with it. Decent camera - my 8 yr old grand daughter flies it. I use it for duck scouting and checking out my farm. We lease 800 acres for duck hunting - 13 lakes on it. Without a drone, you have to ride by one lake to get to another lake. With the drone, I can fly all the lakes a day or two before we hunt and not have to scare up every duck on the place. It is probably about the minimum I would want for usefulness, reliability, and cost. It DOES NOT have obstacle avoidance. It does have return to home

So apparently thermal drones throw you into the $5,000 price range pretty quick huh? Are there $500 thermal drones?

Buddy had one for doing insurance quotes his was a good one fast when the battery was low it returns to where it took off from I thought that was cool. Take off on a tailgate then land on its own on that same tailgate.

I got the Holy Stone HS360S. It's a great beginner drone as well as having some advance features. It will return home on command or when low battery. It also does video but I don't have a chip for it yet. Overall not a bad gig for $200 but for that price thermal is out of the question.
