I tip whatever feels right at the time,15- 20%

My nephew worked as a waiter during college and made $1000/night, Friday/Saturday in tips at a high-end restaurant in VA.

It is a long way to go from the $2.15 -$2.35 or whatever they pay wait staff. And No When I tip it's for quality service at time a lot extra when I see it could be needed. Most I ever tiped in my life was at least 12 years ago and that was a little over a 150$ tip. I'm not sure the exact amount I paid with 2 $100s though my bill was less than $50. Asking the waitress if she could break the extra hundred to 20s for me and left before she got back to give me the change. I was very impressed with the Young lady in a tough situation and wanted to help her out a little. Was at a truck stop in Ohio.

I EXPECT so. I will give you some more of the story. Wife and I were traveling to pick up some mil surplus Government liquidation auction stuff I had won. North of Cincinnati there is or was back then a long stretch of nothing. Finally got to an exit to stop and eat. Was taking forever like 20 min and had not had drink order taken. Waitress came and said she was the only one working. My wife asked if it would be easier if we went somewhere else meaning well but coming off like a B. Girl says no stay. and heads off to get our drinks. The rush was dieing down and were only 2 tables now. I'm a people watcher and noticed how exhausted the Waitress was and her hair was greasy. She had a hard time desperate look in her eyes . When she brought our food we were the only table and she was chatting with my wife. .seeing how wiped out she was I invited her to sit and get off her feet. The conversation turnd to the girls story when I said something about how exhausted she looked.

The short story is she had worked double shift the last two days and her 2 WEEK OLD baby was keeping her from geting sleep. baby daddy dead beat took off with her sister and she was living with her mom.

The girl had a baby 2 weeks before and was out working double shifts not laying up on welfare. I figured I was doing well and the wife and I thought she could us a little blessing to her day. Was the story a lie all or part I don't know, possibly but we believed her and saw sooner that could use a hand it it was just a little something we could gladly do.

Working in the service sector for 41yrs. My wife and I always tip!! Good service good tip. Bad service not so much
I always talk to the Housekeepers and Maintenance staff in the hotel. We tip them as well.

At the scrap yard I tip as well.

It is important if you are blessed to give back!!!! Plain and simple!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what the no tax report would have anything to do with the tip. We tip in cash. What the receiptant does is there business not mine!!!!!!

I see tips as a gift. They don't tax gifts up to well I don't know the current limit but think it's over 12 k a year you can give someone before they have to pay taxes on it. So I dont see they ever had the right to tax tips that are a gift rewards good service to begin with.

It all depends on the performance of the servicer.

Don’t bring the appetizer and the food at the same time,,,,space it out.
Bring cocktail.
Don’t bring me cold food.
Stop in shortly after food is delivered and see it it is ok and what else I needed.
Bring more cocktails.
Remove dirty dishes.

I tip 10% for poor but adequate service, I tip 15% for acceptable service, and 20-25% for good service. I tip nothing for rude service.

Here, the state sales tax is 9. something %, the standard here is to double the tax, so around 18%, and usually round up the to the next dollar, in cash....I feel thats more than enough...and waiters ought to give good service all the time, no excuses.
