I hadn't heard a thing about this until this morning.
Park Service let it burn to naturally improve the land. Now it's burned 50000 acres.

Fire is powerful, but I'm surprised that with the lead time they couldn't protect the lodge.

And, naturally, it burned down the historic lodge...

My experience with fires on NPS jurisdictions is extensive (54 seasons as a wildland firefighter/fire manager.) My experience has been that the only time NPS gets excited about stopping a fire is when it heads for Employee Housing area!

The National Park Service has some leadership that is badly butt hurt by President Trump's reasonable budget cuts. They likely let the lodge burn in an attempt to make President Trump look bad.

Been somewhat following. At one point had to pull back as it got into a drinking water plant and released the chlorine.

If the North side is anything like I saw on the South side last fall, it'd be a challenge to control a fire.

Solid thick brush.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Would not surprise me in the least nor the measures they would take to intentially sabotage.

I remember years ago when a buffalo fell thru the ice in Jellystone Park they didn't help it out. They wanted to let nature take its natural course..

Read an article where an elk, iirc, just did the same thing in one of the hot springs there. The article mentioned the buffalo.

That may be more accurate than about 99.5% of the posts on T-man.
