What 22 ammo do you guys use? Either for dispatch, hunting or just shooting in general?

cci - mini mags or standard velocity

My old man left me a big box of target 22's, so that's what I use..lol

.22 shorts

a mix if stockpile left of random bulk pack for hand guns. close range good enough. Dispatch is typically a mix of the random mix of 22 ammo that always seems to accumulate on the night stand ash trays and cup holders. May be a random mix in the cylinder or magazine. 5 yards don't need much.

Hunting guns suppressed cci standard velocity hp and segmented hp.
Hunting not suppressed cci mini mag hp.

CCI standard velocity are accurate. I hunt with them. Trap dispatch at 5 feet I do like JKieth

Whatever shoots the best in that gun honestly
Ends up being CCI Standard or Rem thunderbolts if I can find them cheap

I'll plink with anything. Dispatch is with Remington shorts or CCI quiets. Small game is with CCI Geentags.

I was wondering if the shorts had enough "oomph" or not. I guess sometimes they do.

Shorts come in high velocity, standard, low velocity. Just with light 32 gr bullet. or at least they used to. I bought out all the low velocity shorts on the shelf when allied sporting goods went out of business when I was a kid. They had ridiculous amount of drop like 3 inches in 20 yards if I'm remember right from about 30 years ago . All you heard was the firing pin click.

Boy they sure hit starlings a lot harder than my .20 cal blue streak out of the top of the oaks in my grandparents back yard. It was click was hit and hiting the ground with no flop just dead. Air gun had flopping.
Was odd all of them shot with th low velocity .22 shorts always had a large hole under the wing and it about riped off. almost like the bullet followed the bone and always came out there.

I was not happy when I finally shot them all up.Must have had around 2k of them.

I don't buy shorts anymore since I can buy things like cci quiet at little over 700 fps ther is no reason to. They are just as quiet as the quietest shorts and are full size easier for my stiff fingers to Handel than shorts. With standard velocity and suppressors there is no reason for me to buy the quiets either.

PF is right about the velocity difference. I shoot the Remington golden bullets. Don't recall the velocity, but they have plenty of energy. I may have seen a deer or two killed with them a couple decades ago.

I use the segmented CCI, I think the velocity is 1200 or so. I started using them to kill lions usually one in the chest did it.

Remington Golden Bullets for everything.

CCI Segmented 1640 fps thru a handgun. CCI Segmented 1200 fps thru a rifle.
Both are extremely effective.

CCI Quiet in the bolt action rifle.

For dispatch I use shots and hollow point if I can find them, they will kill anything at dispatch distance. For plinking I use thunderbolts, yes they are dirty but i am cheep.

Used CCI Segmented for many years for coyote dispatch. One through the heart lays’em down with no blood!

CCI makes good ammo, pretty much what I use in 22 magnum. But in regular 22 ammo I've used all sorts of stuff, CCI standard or high velocity is good hunting ammo, Remington golden bullets has worked fabulous for me. And I've used an awful lot of Thunderbolts, accurate and cheap. And I had 30,000 of them at one time. PMC standard velocity are also really accurate and were what I shot back when I shot competition in high school, they killed quite a bit of stuff for me back then also
