Last night I saw a dove with white on its wings. I saw it again at the feeder and I am 100% sure it was a white wing dove now that I got a better look at it. I saw them and shot them in AZ, but sure never thought I would see one this far north.

Maybe just slightly off course!
I don't think I've ever seen one of those.

Anything can happen. I had a Gamble's Quail here in MN several years ago. He sat on my wishing well daily and sang his head off for a couple of weeks.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I'm guessing my neighbors are going to see some Chuckers running around as soon as it cools off.

Did it have just the white edge, like a white wing dove, or full white wings? Ring neck doves have rapidly increasing feral populations all over the US and many are pied.

Keith

It had a white edge and no black ring on the back of the neck. It had a black line on the side of the neck. I thought it was a ring neck or collared dove when I first saw it. It was less then five yards under the feeder. It was walking around picking up feed under the feeder, so I got to look at it from all angles. My daughter lives in Bismarck and sees chucker's in her yard every year. I figure they come from a bird dog trainer.

White-winged doves are slowly spreading across the country, never in big numbers but will show up in the random spots. We have a dozen or so sightings a year in SD every year. Probably more common but to the casual eye they are just another dove.

That is interesting Tray. Thanks for the info.

Is that an invitation for deer hunting?
I'm in!

I would have never guessed they were moving that far north. When I was in Tucson most of them headed south before the Sept 1 dove opener.
