I meet a fellow last week to do some work on a parcel of land i manage. I agreed to his prices. He said I'll get back to ya to when he could do the work. So, two days later I text to see if he had a time to perform the work. No response. So I called and he answered. He said i ll have it next week. So, I text today and he finally text back that he would have a date next week closer to end of month like we talked about.
So I let him know that I need a date.and time. Because I have things I need done and need to stay on schedule and don't have time to wait until the last minute to.drop everything.
Dont think I'm being pushy and demanding. But when you agree to do something and I have to guess to when your going to show up. That doesn't work for me. After all. Plus I agreed to pay his rate and it wasn't cheap.

Looks like I still looking. If.a.person can't do it or doesn't want to. Then just say so.

Same here, people come for free estimate then you never hear from them again. I guess I am lucky they showed themselves before I scheduled something.

The old saying means more then ever. If you want it done. Then do it yourself.
All I wanted was a date and time to make out my schedule. Im self employed and I always tell my potential clients that I will get back to them within 48 hours. Most times I have a quote, date and time for them that evening. Early bird gets the worm. So, a schedule is extremely important for things to run smoothly and efficiently l.
Plus promptly answering calls or text Will usually get you the job. I believe in being on time for things. A persons time is as important as mine.

Got off the phone with him. We have parted ways with no issues. Looks like he has more then he can handle. Just wished he had said that at the beginning.

If you’re paying the bill then you control the narrative it’s hard to find anyone to do work

This bleeping wet weather often keeps me from giving someone a firm date. Jobs keep getting pushed back and schedules rearranged. Subcontractors like to throw a wrench in the works way to often too. I at least try to keep clients in the loop and be honest with them, and sometimes "I don't know" is all I can do.

Yep, mother nature dictates. Most folks understand that. But when you cant seem to have your act together then don't say you can do the job. My time equals money. Plus if a person is late showing up for an appointment. Then that's strike two automatically. Third strike a person doesn't get. Which tells me your not responsible and not a person who can be trusted.

Yeah. it can be tough. I run a small carpentry business and give a rough time usually within a week or so for wiggle room. sometimes you run into things. Around December I went to install a houselot of windows and doors for a guy on the ocean and when I opened up the wall It was the most rot I've ever seen to date. We reframed about 60% of that house. bottom floor joists were rolling on a 30 degree angle. I still don't know how I didn't squash myself with lifting that up. His price tag skyrocketed and deadline pushed everyone back. A long time.

compound that with weather, other jobs I find rot, or jobs where customers want more done and customers almost competeing to get good workers in or get a job done before closing a house?... If a days work is 10 bucks (stupid numbers) and someone offers you 50 to "squeeze" it in, small unimportant jobs can get pushed to the side, sorry to say. Only so many days until winter and can't waste time with jobs that don't pay much when I support a wife and children. I do a charity job every now and again to help folk that really need it, but right now we just need more contractors for all the work out there. it's wild.

Mosst independent contractors I know or work with have more business then they need so if a few potential customers get miffed they don't get too worried. Many left other jobs so they could work on their own schedules and most adhere to that model.

Yep, your right. The property owners land I manage wants things done. So do i. If a person is too busy, then say so.
Being true to your word and being on time is crucial. Otherwise procrastination sets in and things don't get done.
I like being a man of my word. My reputation means everything in business.

Can't argue with a single word of that, Sarge.

I waiting on a guy who was coming to replace some siding and install a new door for me. Said end of may first of June. Well it’s the end of July and I haven’t heard a peep. People just don’t want to work anymore

It most likely isn't that the guy doesn't want to work, he's probably too busy to call you.

Two of my Sons are in building construction. They called their teacher from trade school and asked him to line them up with some of his best students. He said you don't want any of my students. I won't recommend any one of them.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

Your probably right. I suppose this time it didn't work out for either one us. But, he could have been honest and said he was booked if that is the reason.
He's not the only one with the equipment that's needed for job. So, tomorrow is making some phone calls.

Did he give a timeline on when he said, "I'll get back to ya" ?

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
