Fairly sure most here have enough traps to last three lifetimes. But on the rare occasion you need more traps, do you buy new or used? Personally, I haven't bought a new trap for two decades. I've bought a lot of used ones though.

If I happen across my preferred brand in good working order, I dont mind used traps. If I cant, I will buy new. Im not one to buy rusted steel just for the sake of buying it or saving a couple bucks if its not my preferred brand.

Both. And I generally don't like buying used without handling them.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

I like them to b the same. Rarely can I find what I want used and in the quanity I want when I want. But have bought used when the opportunity was there.

The vast majority of my foothold traps were purchased used. Almost all of my body grip traps were purchased new. I have not bought any traps for 8 years. I have slowly selling off traps I have not used much or at all the last decade.

The ties are wood.

I like new if they're still being made.

Or do you mean the rails that got "tied" around trees during the civil war?

Got a friend who says he brushes his teeth with solvent and a wire brush. Most likely forges his traps out of railroad spikes as well.

I prefer just to squeeze the elements to make raw steel in my hands to shape and make the best traps ever made. Savell is a wuss.
