The township just sent me a letter with my new assessment for my house and 3 acres. It increased by 76%!

The letter says: "A Reassessment does not mean that your overall property taxes will be going up. Most property owners will see little changes in their property tax bill."

Who are they trying to kid?

yup , increase property value today and cut mil rate

then with new assessments let the mil rate creep up by maximum annual allowed

Wisconsin property taxes have been broken for a little over 30 years maybe longer.

they made the system dependent on growth so when a town can't grow any more you have issues.

like say there is a swamp in 3 directions and a farm that doesn't want to sell in the 4th direction , makes grown hard

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

City people are building up to 19 houses across the street from my farm on 20 acres. BECAUSE " It's just so nice and beautiful out here" Yes NOW but it won't be once you all build the houses It will be what you left.

I asked one guy Why in the world do you want to move out in the country and have worse services and newborn so close you get zero benefit of living in the country. You are just Turing it into what you left. I would rather have a house in town and be closer to everything..

Guy made out about how his wife wants chickens and they are on 1/8 acre and can't have chickens. I took it as he thinks 1 acre makes him a land baron. long skinny lots And the furs house can't be more than 50' off the road.

And yes my taxes and land value keep going up. That's only good if I plan to sell But even then the capital gains tax will eat me up.

The significant raise as a percentage is not as important as what the assessed value is based on. The assessed value is based on the Assessor's opinion of the market value. What did the Assessor say the market value of your property is? Do you agree or disagree with it. If you think that the Assessor has overvalued your property than you can appeal it. Have an appraisal completed by a certified appraiser.

In a lot of cases, assessed values (and assessor's opinions of market value) are well below the real market value.

The assessed value on one of my properties was raised by 37% this past cycle, but is still well below its real fair market value. So, I'm not complaining.

Tax increases are not going up as fast as home owners and auto insurances are in our area. When I look at our insurance statements and see their estimated cost of replacement for our small older home it seems it is amazing.

They're slowly forcing people out to become renters. Then they will have more control.
