Was just wondering what y’all’s opinion is on the use of cell cameras checking traps . I’ve been reading on some deer hunters forums and they were so thankful for cell cameras to check their traps for them . There is a guy that I work with that uses them to check his after deer season , every time we talk about it I tell him that getting out and checking them is just part of it . If you don’t have the time to check them then don’t set them .

It's like any new thing. People don't generally like change, but get used to it after a while. I think it's a good idea. I wish WI would allow it.

I use em on sets that are hard to get to if ground is soft. Some coyotes get spooked by cameras others do not. It also ruins the anticipation of going to a set wondering if you caught something .

Most places I could use a cell camera the reception is not dependable enough to trust it like the National Forest or the river breaks here.

Me too. Im not sure how cell cameras on traps could work when I have 20 or 30 beaver sets or 50 to 100 coyote sets.

Even I gotta draw the line somewhere...lol

Georgia law does allow it, but who only sets a few traps? I have 5 cell cameras, but 5 traps is a waste of both the landowner's and my time...

I use Reveal 2.0 for nuisance trapping. I have very good luck with them and like the fact that I can click on my phone to take a picture on demand to check traps whenever I like

I could see where it could be handy in certain circumstances, such as if you're trying to catch the "last" coyote or beaver and don't want to keep walking back into the area and spooking them. Or... if you wanted to stick a set or two at a hot location that's not very accessible. But of course not practical for every set.

They spook some animals. Canines especially.

Coyotes sure don’t like them but I like that to keep them away from my cat sets so it can work for a guy.

Hog trappers like them so they don't have to drive a hour or two out to see if anything is caught. Love those reveal tacticams.

They're coming to the state, but you might not like the final regulations.

I use em for ADC and fur trapping too. Great tool. The animals know that they’re there, but they’ll get used to them. If it’s quiet enough, you can even hear the cam go off……my Spypoint Link anyways.
Hard to believe, but there’s 7 wolves in this little pic….lol

Only licenced nuisance trappers can use them here, and then with some stringent stipulations. Just too many chances of cameras not giving proper notification...dead batteries, lack of good cell signal, malfunctioning camera etc. All it takes is one critter found in a trap that has been there too long and gives trapping a big black eye. Im glad its not legal here for trappers. Ifn you cant take the time to check them manually, find a different activity....say golf..? whistle

I got one of the solar powered cameras and its so much better than burning up batteries. It never seems to quit regardless of the weather. But I don't check traps with it.

Amazing how many states will regulate common sense and some ban even the general use of them for privacy issues when you have no expectations in public by law so the government will run public cams.

I don’t use any cell cams my buddy ran his last elk season I was not impressed with their performance, mine are all chips the only advantage to having them is seeing what I did not catch or if I should set in that area or not. A game can never caught a critter for me in reality.

Improvements could be made to make the cell cams more trustworthy with new satellite tech that would improve coverage even in rough terrain but the useless regulations will get in the way but thats often the case.

WA recently authorized the use of cell cams for doing daily trap checks, however a lot of areas I trap coverage is poor to non existent but where it is good saves time, and does keep the area semi scent free from having to visit traps everyday

U can set cameras to take a pic at a set time a day and send it to u. If pic doesn't come through u know u need to go check it in person. Also u can monitor ur battery from ur phone.

Not always, there are cams that have an invisible flash. I have countless videos of yotes around sets and everywhere else that have no clue a camera is nearby. Plus with a video, the flash is illuminated for the duration, in my case its generally 20 seconds. Invisible flash is great.

In fact I just posted this video here on another thread showing two wolves.

I use car batteries to power my cell cams via cable. I can easily get over a year of power on a single charge. Plus, I live in Minn, where it gets below zero on a regular basis and powering the camera is never an issue.
