I sight in a few dozen guns a year for folks around here and being in a pretty low income area 80% of them are Walmart specials, savage axis's , mossberg Patriots and rem 770's. I personally don't like the 770's. I like playing with really cheap guns and tying to fixem up but these are sick mainly it's just due to how sloppy the bolts are .... Anyhow sighted in about 2dozen in the last few years in various a caliber and I gotta say , outta all the cheap Tupperware stock, usually poorly cared for budget rifles , these seem to be the most consistent across the board.
I don't remember having one that don't keep under 2.5" @100yd with anything I fed it ...and boy I've feed them som crap. The others tend to be much much picker. Like 5-6" groups not uncommon at all.but 770's... if you can shoot ,the groups are gonna be under 2.5" which around here these guys are beyond happy with . Few old timers I zero for will say
"Heck if it can keep em on a snuff can it'll pop em in the neck JUST FIINNEE " laugh

Anyhow ... Some random gibber jabber while this thing cools down some.... Ugh hope it's the last .270 I gotta deal with for a while

Mess with any 783's?

Thinking of building a gun on one.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Honestly not that I can remember , the 783 is the really budget version of the 700 right ?

I wouldn't use a 770 if it was free.

Been there, done that.

Work that bolt fast in a hunting situation it comes out of the gun in your hand.

I gave mine away to someone I didn't have much concern for.

My experience with them is the same. The Axis on the other hand, is and feels cheap, but some are real tack drivers!

I don’t agree with you on the 783. It’s not a pretty gun and it is definitely a budget gun but man can that thing shoot. I have one in .22-250 and that thing is a very accurate hunting rifle. The coyotes the past 6 years have hated to see that gun coming out of the case.

Well I'll be the anomaly here and say my 770 chambered in .30-06 has always served me well.
First to admit it's a cheap gun and sloppy bolt. Bought at Gander Mountain the day after I turned 18 for maybe $300 with a scope package it came with. Sighted it in and haven't adjusted it in 16 years.
Put it right in a hogs ear twice, 3 bears in the head and too many deer to count. Never missed one.
Granted, I'm shooting under 100 yards but it's the only high powered rifle I've ever used.
Have a Bergara 6.5 still in the box I haven't touched because the 770 does what I need.

The term "good" is pretty relative to each person's standards

those things in a combo came with such JUNK as a scope , I was helping some kids sight in for deer camp. he pulled the trigger just as I saw how close he was to the scope all I could do was get him some gauze out of the first aid kit for his eye brow.

that was how awful the eye relief was someone won that POS at a raffle at some banquet or bar.

they could be usable if you put some better glass on them that the package combo comes with.
