So what if two people at work have a one night affair, then both being married feel remorseful. They decide never again will they cheat on their spouses. The guy is even extra burdened by what he has done. Neither his wife nor the womans husband even have a clue of anything. The guy asks God for forgiveness but just can't get over the guilt, should he confess to his wife so his conscience can get relief ? I don’t know that blowing up everybody’s world would be the best option but he should get it out to somebody that would be instrumental in his accountability going forward. That’s a tough one.

Otherwise, he's either going to excuse his sin or he's gonna live with guilt forever, both are equally bad.

This is my opinion, not sure if it's necessarily found in the Bible. We sometimes are incapable of forgiveness in ourselves. When we have been hurt so bad that we can't forgive, we can ask Jesus to do it for us. In my experience, I might have to do this a thousand times and still fight with resentment, but if that's what it takes to relieve the burden of carrying anger, it's worth it. How do you help someone with this?About all you can do is encourage them to give everything over to God.

He told us to pray to the father, and he also told us, no one comes to the Father exept though him.
1Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
The prayer that he told the Apostles to pray was of his kingdom. If Jesus is your Lord and Savior, then you have a mediator between you and the father. The question I have is who do you serve? King Jesus? or the king of this world? If it's Jesus you serve. Then you have a mediator to the father. If it's the other guy. Then deception.

I wasn’t sure how to ask the question I really had but y’all’s responses have cleared it up some.
Let’s try again, is it a detriment to you if someone offers forgiveness before you have a chance to ask for it? No, they just showed you the love of Christ. One of the ways of confessing Christ Jesus. Now if they offered forgiveness and there was nothing to forgive then you should bank that one lol.

By all means, confess to Jesus, but we don't have the opportunity to talk to Jesus face-to-face in this world. He asks about feeling guilty about it even after praying for forgiveness. Talking about these things with another person face-to-face can help with this. A priest or an AA sponsor are two good options for this.

Sure it's good to communicate with peaple you trust. But an AA sponsor or a Priest can't mediate to the father without Christ. That would be standing in the place of Christ.

Guilt isn't always a bad thing. I think our culture teaches us it is. People think they should be able to do anything and ask for forgiveness from God and it's all done. But actions have consequences and if you screwed someone over and never tried to make peace with the person, well, you should feel guilty.

They will never be truly reconciled to their spouse unless they deal with the issue. That’s pretty much what I figured. The forgiveness came before they even knew what they were forgiving and it still haunting them.

I’ve heard many times that forgiveness is for the person doing the forgiving more than the forgiven. We can forgive without being asked to. Why do we have to ask for forgiveness through Jesus? Cause those are the rules.
