I saw a handheld welder. Looks just like a drill. It says it takes up to 1/8 rod. Anyone ever used one. Cost was around $80.00. I saw demo on the internet, and it looked pretty neat. But then I lost the demo and can't find It again.
I was a fitter/ welder in the trades and had a long list of certifications related to welding. I have a miller welder well the farm has It. But it looks like good choice for a hobby guy. It would work for trap mods and making trapping stakes. But I would like to talk to someone that's actually used one. But the flick looked like it worked pretty well. And if you would bend the rod at a 90-degree angle you could rest your hand or arm on the welding table, and you would be really steady.
Id like to see how it works with running a bead! To you non welders…A root pass! The rod he was running looked like 5P+, but not after he welded. Some kind of specialty rod, maybe!
Good seeing you and Pam in Spencer, Gary!
YOU CAN IGNORE REALITY, BUT YOU CANNOT IGNORE THE CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING REALITY.
I would not recommend this for any thing really heavy, like feeding your self with an open spoon in my book !
Looks terribly uncomfortable to use for any length of time and certainly not for heavy duty use, which farm work naturally is in everything a farmer does not to mention a person never using a welder before, LOL thats just with looking at the picture, it's advertised as lighter than a stick welder, I won't even believe that, let alone the rest of the ad !!
Now me being a professional welder with many different types of welding and machines and steel detailer worker 45 years, now retired, makes me more observant of the safety and down the road aspect of something like this !
I would just say use only as much money as you would wish to lose gambling for winning, and don't complain when it breaks down on you !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !
Here a $70 stick welder that doesn't look.like a drill, lol, little more traditional Guy welds 1/2" with it. FWIW, no.one is saying these in any way compares to a tier one welder, or your prized $87,000 unit, but CAN be a way, in a tight budget, to mess around, fix/ fabricate a few things, or dip.your toes in the welding water.
I have one like DAVE P showed. ( Not certain of the brand) Neighbor asked me to check it out for he could not weld with it. I started welding in 1964 professionally so have used and/or owned about everything you could think of. Turned out the neighbor has never had a welding hood on. The unit is solid state and puts out a decent bead. I have not checked for penetration but for +- $100 it does a decent job for a spot welder.
I was told the same thing, no welding with a pacemaker, also no leaning over a running engine, beware of microwaves, bla, bla, bla...just a long list of don'ts that I ignore and never had consequences over...have a pacemaker 45 years, I should have blown up by now. So much for a lot of doctors's advice....
