For you f150 owners. How many miles are on your truck.? And expect to have before replacing engine or getting another truck. I have a 02 f150 with the 2 valve 5.4. It has 304,000 and still going strong. I'm going to replace the intake manifold with an OEM part here soon. Other then that. The truck is in good shape. Original tranny is still shifting perfectly. This truck has been taken care of religiously. I have also decided if engine does go. Im having a Ford crate motor put back in. Cost would be around $7,000. Can't get a decent truck for that money and know what you have. So, how many miles have you gotten with yours?

Be warned as soon as you crack it open for something new, you will see it go down hill, don't know why, they just do, know to many people that had high mileage, then changed something on the block and forever had other problems start and take them down ! Have to change it. It's leaking coolant. Common issue with the 5.4 Triton engine. Going with oem versus aftermarket. If I can get another 50,000 I'll be happy. Sarge

I went your route with my 97 ranger when the motor blew I had a shop put a jasper rebuilt in it with 100k warranty. I think it been at least 4 years ago. More money in it than it's worth but much cheaper than buying new or used replacement and like you Said knowing what you have means something. My last 150 was a 99 and it hit a red oak at about 55mph head on after the glancing impact from old man pulling out and clipping me sent the truck off the road. Can't remember the milage it had or most of the following 3 months after the wreck for that matter. How do you like the Jasper engine?

If the Ford crate has the same components that go bad, why go that route ? Find a good shop that will upgrade components and rebuild if going that route.[/quote]
You have a good point. I have just the guy that will be building my 350 for my Nova SS. He specializes in racing engines. I bet he could upgrade for sure. Only issue don't know if he knows how to put it back together. He's not an everyday mechanic. He just builds engines and the owner puts it in.

I did the intake manifold on my 00 expedition in 2020 used the napa part it worked fine and saved me a couple hundred off OEM want to say like 300 total in parts at the time.
the alternator has a bolt to the cross over rail and that is screwed on to the plastic manifold the manifold is vibrated and up against the heads by that cross over and the flanges crack around the rubber gasket just under the thermostat housing and on the same spot on the other side.
your not really cracking the engine open at all
label all your plugs well , take pictures make notes I used blue painters tape and labeled with numbers my wife wrote down the number and the name on a notebook everything as it came apart then basically worked the numbers backwards on re-assembly
the 4 and 8 coil and fuel rail are the biggest pain but those aren't even that bad just a real reach
if you haven't done coils and plugs it will be the easiest it ever gets with the manifold off. I regret not doing it at that time , but I was being cheap and my coils all were working at the time.
coils are cheaper by the 8 pack than 1 at a time , even if you just put in a new 4 and 8
I have had 3 of the 5.4s to 250ish then rust or an accident or not being needed sent them along
6 years later there is still blue painters tape on the cables on that expedition , I sold it to a friend of a friend as it was my wife's vehicle and she stopped driving a couple months before she passed away,
I wish someone made a screen to take the place of the thermostat the little bits of plastic have stuck the Thermostat open twice , would be good to get them out of the system more effectively than pull the thermostat every time you can't get heat and find a bit of plastic , being SC not an issue you are likly to have so you could just leave the thermostat out it was only an issue at single digits or lower , 15 below you never get heat with the thermostat stuck open.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have a 93, 5.0 liter(302) 4x4 well over 300,000. Most of the miles have been extremely rough mountain roads. The only problems are I have lost the slave cylinder 3 or 4 times(you have to pull the tranny to replace it) and the bench seat sucks. The back keeps breaking down and lays back to the point I look like a kid trying to be cool. I have hit half a dozen deer, one at 60mph, and no noticeable damage. It is starting to rust under the doors mainly from dragging them on rocks on corners.
