I picked up a bushel this morning and was in shock at the price
But I need them for jam for my property owners and friends and family

What are they in your area?

$65 a bushel. Bought some that were getting a little soft for $24 a bushel. They made some awesome jam.

I trap for fun. I skin 'em for the money!

Today, peaches at Mt. Hope in Ohio were $20.00 to $28.00 a bushel, with an average of $24.00 a bushel. The prices you guys paid are nuts. Go further down the supply chain.

Just go to a produce auction. Don't pay retail.

Don't. Go to the produce auctions instead. You paid high retail at a high end orchard. Maybe they had a bad year, but not everyone else did.

Thoughts like these are why farmers are having a tough time selling anything any more !!

That just happens to be exactly where I was on Saturday and they had no problem paying 35.00 a HALF bushel.

Plant ya some peach trees if you think you’re paying too much. Everything’s high, including the costs to grow good food.

Wait until these beef prices settle out at the retail level

If I had to sell the peaches off my trees, they would be closer to $600 a bushel grin

Don't go on weekends. You will pay much more. Here's today's report. Pecks are 1/4 of a bushel.

As you can see pecks of peaches all sold between $5.00 and $7.00 each, that's $20.00 to $28.00 a bushel as I correctly stated.

Auctions are mostly supply and demand driven. Ego of the bidders does play some part, especially if the auctioneer is good at pitting bidders against them. At the peak harvest, prices typically drop to their lowest. I make a fair portion of my living from auction purchases.

Also there wasn't a produce auction at Mt. Hope proper on Saturday. What were you at instead? All their results are posted on their website for the world to see.

Wetdog makes some awesome jam.

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

It was an Amish food/produce auction before the main event. Prices could just as likely rise as fall at the next one. I didnt really want a half bushel and cut out of the bidding early. It also didnt help that there was only a few half bushels there. We dont have many local auctions of any sort anymore, and you have to put on some miles to go when they do.

If they were decent size more like a bushel and a half
I buy #1 because I don't like messing with the bruised ones
I make peach jelly and a glazing sauce with the skins
