I have been turning the four month old pup out when I see a ground squirrel in the yard. He has not caught any, but has been close a couple times before they got down the hole. I shot one with the pellet rifle today for him. He was sure he got it by himself.

I don't think I could. He is pretty strong minded, for any dog, much less his age. I think if his legs were longer then a gophers, there would be a good chance he would catch one.

Had a female border collie that flat out hated squirrels, if you even said the word "squirrel" she'd go ballistic, came close a few times but never caught one....she was hard on woodchucks and coon though...

If you tell him there is a gopher when he is in the house, he is headed for the door and wants out. He remembers where he saw one go down a hole and goes and checks it. He tries to dig them up if they are in the hole.
