Didn't want to pee on the other post.
I've not paid that fee but know others
that sure have.
My Brothers paid two months wages plus costs.
Cheap compared to some I've known.
They don't do bars anymore.
How much in your area?

The party pooper lol.

Add court ordered drug/alcohol classes on to that, the average responsible guy pays for it but the usual drunks get to go for free several times.

If they took the money out of the deal they wouldn't do it at all.

Had to do a roadside sobriety test one time, but never DUI. The test was the result of admitting to drinking one beer three hours earlier.

In NY the increased cost for insurance is 5 five years. That’s bigger than court.

Some go free until they kill somebody. We had such a case here in the Twin Cities. He had an extensive number of DUIs. One night he drove into a crowd of people killing a few. He will be doing prison time finally, but it took people dying first.

A good friend of mine got one last Halloween. $2500 for an attorney, $1100 court costs, fines, interlock for car to be installed and monitored has been about $1000 so far with three more months to go.

Insurance he's paying is now $370 a month. Court mandated diversion and weekly pee tests I forgot how much he said. That will continue three more months too.

IMO first offense should be 6 months in jail. 2nd should be prison. Some people 20,000 is a drop in the bucket. Jail effects everyone.

Weren't called DUI back when I got one my senior year in highschool, and one or so soon after.

Transportation, consumption of alcoholic beverages by underage person......25$ and 10$ justice fee.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

A European country has a mandatory jail sentence. The judge gives the driver a date to report to prison. Normally the date is several months down when a bunk is available.

Take them straight to jail for a month. Don’t give them the chance to call their boss and explain why they’re not coming in to work for 4 weeks.

Let them have to explain all that after the fact. Oh your goldfish died cause it didn’t get fed. Boohoo!

All that is irrelevant compared to the cost of KILLING someone, maybe a friend, or yourself. (no big loss there tho). This applies to dope eaters too!
Guy I used to work with got his 19th DWI before some judge finally cracked down on him and he paid MUCHO DINERO, and lost his DL for 10 yrs.

I worked with a guy who had a bit of a drinking problem. He had already gotten 1-2 DUI's
Then on his next offence the judge slapped him with 30 days. He told the bosses at work , they told him to do his time. But if he was just one day more than he was allowed to take , he would lose his job. Luckily he had enough seniority to get 3 weeks of vacation , that and using up his personal time off and some creative scheduling, he had the bear minimum. So he left work one day , reported to jail the next day. 30 days later , released. Following day back to work. He used up every bit of vacation time and other assorted days off , he burned his entire allotment for the year in jail. Good thing too , he would have lost a job of 18 years.

Very true.

Of note to all , never , never tell the police you fell asleep behind the wheel after an accident. Some states view that as bad as drinking and driving. Fallback lie , a deer ran in front of your car. Hard to prove as the deer ran away.
