I’m not debating that crossbows are an evil tool or for the lazy.
I have simply a bad taste in my mouth about them from someone we know who continually takes less than desirable, long shots and fails to recover MULTIPLE deer each season. I single-handedly blame this person for the existence of our antler restrictions. He’s a friend of the family but one of the lousiest examples of a fair chase hunter I’ve ever encountered. There are plenty of traditional archers that refuse to put in the practice time and/or wait for ethical shots that are crippling and killing deer they never recover. I know because I find dead deer with arrow wounds and arrows broken off in them all the time while hunting small game with my dogs. I see plenty of wounded deer limping around after archery season as well. I really fail to see how one guy could cause statewide antler restrictions. my boys asked me how many deer i killed when they were small. told them i ha no idea. Tried constant counting. Gave up after loosing track around 175 so figured between that and low 200's. Point if that is i have shot 5 deer i didn't recover out of close to 200. 4 were with my compound and the shots were the same about 5 to 10 yards sharp down angle .Nice but battery blood trail that vanished about 40 yards Always rhout they died untill a guy at work described a shot he made on a buck he could not find. Described it to a T. 2 weeks later that buck was back on his trail cam with nicely heeling up hole in his back. And he survived. So maybe I dind find them becuse they lived Point of that is 5 yards with compound would be considered ethical. Both my boys are at about 25 each now and neither have lost a single deer. I have never killed a deer with x bow yet. but have been with my kids when they have shot several and it seems like the deer go down faster shot with the x bow by kids than all mine shot with my compound. infact Not one has not gone down in sight. This is with kids doing the shooting mind you . The tool has nothing to do with ethics. Some people would be fine deer hunting and dropping deer with a .22. Others shoot them all the time and loose them wit 300 win mag.

Most of our state is a one deer limit with some areas being buck only due to low population, we didn't need more efficient means to take deer For 3 1/2 months. Going to end up with more efficient weapons and draw tags. Could also be more accurate shoots being taken amd less lost deer. One shot tag filled and done for the year instead of guy shooting 4 becuse he lost the first 3.

Of course they hunted in the early season. If you reread my op I'm pretty sure I said I have no issue with older folks, anyone who can't pull lol l a bow due to physical limitations or KIDS using them. If some people on here had reasonable reading comprehension skills this thread would only be 3 pages lol If you'd learn how to use the quote feature your posts would be a lot more readable.
Eh...wot?

Guess we should cut down bow season and have a x bow, black powder, firearms, and air gun season only. Only one hunting tool type alowde during that seasion. No overtime lap. An bow being used for 3 months .
I mean who need 3 months to tag out after all. 300 + fps bow limit to 2 weekends a year. makes since to me.
Or if the population is so low maybe there should be no season at all tell the population recovers.

If you are gonna go traditional, go traditional! ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/08/full-2625-267455-1000008123.png) Folks still making them that way today, no need to.use new fangled materials and cheat. I always thought I would try that someday. Just flat out awesome, in my book that and tanning and making clothing like k snow are outstanding. Buy the time im.willing to dededicat the time.to learn i will be dead at this rate.

I was browsing used bows and saw a creed, quickly turned the channel lol. Over here only half the dead deer are owned by "hunters". The insurance co owns the other half. Mr Green jeans claim them for two weeks and farmers feed em full time. Trouble makers is all they are. Anybody got a xbow for sale

Or if the population is so low maybe there should be no season at all tell the population recovers. Or we could have a 4 month season and the guys who don't want to take a few mins a week to practice could find a new hobby

There's an easy fix to this problem. Eliminate archery season. Just have "deer season". Use a rifle, shotgun, flintlock, caplock, compound bow, longbow, crossbow, recurve bow, atlatl, axe handle.... any legal weapon of your choice. Problem solved.

Yep, Gotta give bow hunters a couple of the best months to hunt and pick of the crop. One month for everyone, choose your one and only one weapon and see how proud they are to bow hunt.
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.
