Hello, I am going to set up some traps for cats "victor 3 DLS" so I'm wondering about chain type and length. I want to doble stake or run drags, so I was thinking about a foot of number 3 strait link with 4 swivel points and 8 feet of 2/0 twist link and a chestnut rig with a quick link at the end and a few swivels in between.

Or should I do shorter chain?

Love to hear you toughs, thank you in advance.

the more the merrier on chain length for drags. on staked traps 24inches of overall chain is plenty. some prefer a lot less. plenty of swivels to. I prefer 3

Is that going to be a problem with long springs? because I am worried about the springs getting caught and the trap not swiveling.

Agree with Flint in his description. I run #3 double long springs on yotes and cats and at least ten foot of #3 chain with a bare minimum of 4 J hook swivels . Works great and will tangle up quickly with a good digging drag. As far as double stake . Keep chain two feet long. Room for em to move around but no so short they could pump out stakes in Texas soil.

Personally I would use at least 8-10' of #3 chain for drags. My setup is 1' of #5 chain off drag + swivel + 8.3' (100'/12 = 8.3') of #3 hooked to trap chain... The heavier the chain, the better the drag stays down.

For staking, I would recommend at least 18" or so...

how could I get them not to tear up the set without drag or slide wires because I don't want a lot of weight?

Outdoor Todd I always reset a staked trap after I catch a coyote. But I will put in another set a few feet outside of the catch circle just for a backup. I don't see a lot of refusals to catch circles here where I'm at. Your area may be a little different though.

I use #2 twist link chain on most my drags for cats and coyotes. Fantastic setup for me. Doesn’t tangle, stronger than straight link, and not over heavy.
