Got an email from Moultrie a couple days ago. Says theyll send me a free cell camera...the Edge 2. An $80 camera.

I figured yeah right, but followed thru just to see. A few minutes later they send me an email saying its been shipped...no charge.

Supposed to be here Monday.

They have my debit card info because I have 2 Edge cameras and cell plans already.....if they deduct that camera, theyll get it back.

It would seem that with the data plans and subscriptions - they would/should give the cameras away. Guessing if they had a deal like buy one get four free, they would do well on the yearly plan instead of a person buying 1 and having a cheaper yearly bill. Kinda like giving away a razor to sell the replacement blades.

Cell camera business may be headed in just this direction...time will tell.

Most brands have became cheaper in price over past couple years.

Another noteworthy thing about the Moultrie Edge series cameras is they utilize no SD card. There is no internal memory. So, without the cell plan...camera is useless.

Yep, I let mine expire...too much money just to save a little walking.

What I can't figure is I got another Voopeak camera because of the solar panel no card and no batteries.
Lo and behold, this one takes both batteries and uses solar and has a card. Don't know why they changed a good thing.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Burnt out with them back in the trail camera days, wouldn't have anything of theirs now if it was free. Same for Jager Pro's crappy customer service. Just tossed all their junk in the dumpster last week.

Thanks swamp wolf.

Hey I just ordered a couple non-cellular browning cameras for my new property. I am not paying for any service I can walk my happy butt to the camera and pull the card to see the visitors. I don’t need any real time updates on my phone.
And it wasn’t easy fining cameras without a cell service tied to them. Finally did though.
Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

JabNE,
Ive noticed that SD card-only cameras cost as much or more than cell cams nowadays. I have 7 SD card cameras....and 5 cell cam....well 6 cell cams if that new Moultrie gets here and its actually free....lol

Ive had good luck with the 2 Moultrie Edges I have. They're great on batteries. Seem to be taking pics as supposed to. The activity part of the app is great.

There are some bad reviews on Moutrie products.

I got my 1st Moultrie Edge as a gift. It worked well until it went underwater for 48 hours, so I ordered 2 more.

I could get by without the cell cams, but they are handy to have on a good scrape location or a trail leading into/out of a known bedding area.....so you dont have to go back in there as often.

We were ordering 100 moultrie's at a time, out of 10 one wouldn't even come on and they didn't replace it so we went elsewhere. Now we run muddy's which cost 30 bucks, good quality pic's and when i pull mine up at the end of the month this will be their 3rd year sitting in the blazing sun all summer and still going.

Just started fooling with cell cam's last summer, only running Reveals and be hard to get me off them, no complaints.

Save's driving in everyday to check a hog trap! Can cover more area not having to go four wheeling in and out of those tough to get to place's everyday, less wear / tear on vehicle, etc so they pretty much pay for theirself in my case.

This is exactly the business model that a number of cell camera companies are using. They will give away the cameras, especially for fundraisers and such because they will make it up on their data plans. Older inventory is just taking up space and will probably never be used if they don't give it away so taking up storage with older models just wastes storage space. Giving them away probably allows them to make some money off of something that they would otherwise throw in a dumpster.

We hosted one of these companies last fall for a hunt on our farm and I had a chance to talk to them very candidly about their cameras. Dropping the SD cards in the Moultrie cameras has resulted in about a 80%+ decrease in customer service calls as the number one issue they had to address was SD card issues. I'm now on year two with them and haven't had near the problems that I've had with other brands.

They are also utilizing AI in some of their applications which allows for herd analysis and summarizing activity, etc. They have a number of analysts and programmers working on some cutting edge stuff as well. They are also very open to any feedback they get. Most of their technicians and programmers are fairly young but are very eager to make the best products and apps so don't hesitate to give them feedback if you have any issues as they genuinely want to know about it.

One of their lead programmers was a young programming guy that never hunted prior to coming out with us last year. By the second day he was skinning and quartering his own deer. We hope to host them again this fall with a new batch of folks that never hunted.

I suspend my camera plans about mid-spring until late summer. The plans pick up where you left off amd credit you back.

I’d like to have one or two cell cams for certain spots and times, especially with bear baits. I just ordered two Tasco $20 el-cheapo cams. I bought an old but almost identical looking version at a rummage sale a couple years ago for $5 and it’s been going strong. Free shipping for Sportsman’s Warehouse if order over $50. Buddy of mine has a couple Mounties and they’ve been good to him. Happy trapping! ScottW
