If its anything like the original jake trap and it appears to be. You can take out the pads and bolt back on the flat stock and you have an offset laminated trap...

I know a lot of folks might think it has kind of a small jaw spread for coyotes and cats but you have to remember that it is almost identical to a #3 long spring. No idea how many hundreds of thousands of coyotes have been caught in the old #3 LSs

I thought that I wasn't a "padded jaw guy" until 2 dozen Jakes showed up at my doorstep. They were highly recommended to me by a well respected coyote trapper, but he left out the part about the pads.
I went ahead and set them as is and every time a trap was sprung, there was a coyote in it. Those pads are tough as all get out they cannot slide their feet whatsoever. They hold toe caught coyotes too since there is no offset. I set them for coon when I have wind blown sand piling up on sets. Those traps fire through some pretty deep sand, and the coon will still be there when I show up. JCs rubber jaws are the ticket in my opinion.
