I keep seeing threads that mention baiting deer with corn or apples. Not a legal option here, but I was curious what states and provinces allowed it. Also figured that it might lead to a lively discussion to read tonight when I can't sleep. So, can you bait them, and are there any laws that restrict how you can bait them?

Baiting for deer is allowed here on private land. Not on public land.

I think they are hoping that the baiters will help keep the deer out of the fields. lol

I remember when we couldn’t bait and you couldn’t shoot does.

Funny story. A friend of mine from NY won a door prize at a convention once. It replicated the sound of a deer corn feeder.

She was like, what the heck use is this to me in NY.

Nice! Always looking for a decent spot to get after does. Can you buy extra tags?

Antlered Deer: You can take two antlered white-tailed deer per license year across all seasons combined, but only one per weapon season.

Bonus Antlered Deer Stamp: A third antlered deer can be harvested in Region B (central, southern, and eastern Maryland) if you purchase a Bonus Antlered Deer Stamp.

Antler Point Restriction: There's an antler point restriction for white-tailed deer, meaning only one of your antlered deer within the bag limit can have two or fewer points on each antler. Any other antlered deer must have at least three points on one antler.

Antlerless Deer: The limits for antlerless deer differ by region.
Region A: Limits vary but are more restrictive than Region B.
Region B: Offers higher limits for antlerless deer and can include unlimited antlerless deer in suburban areas.

We are Region B.

He was asking about baiting. Not how many deer we can shoot.

The reason we can bait is in direct correlation with the number we can shoot.

True. I suppose.

But, dear reader! Don’t let that information lead you to believe that we are some sort of “destination deer state” or that we have “big bucks”.

Mostly just little does, button bucks and the occasional spike.

legal to bait on private land in Kansas. But there has been some discussion about restricting it due to cwd. The thought is, they all come put their mouth on the same feeder and spread cwd.

I like eating little does, button bucks and spikes. I'll be there shortly.

Legal in a handful of counties in Wisconsin. State laws require the DNR to ban baiting in counties where wild or captive deer test positive for CWD for 3 years, and in adjacent counties for 2 years if the deer is within 10 miles of the county boundaries. It definitely goes on illegally in probably every county though. I'd bet it would be one of the most common violations if wardens had the time to enforce it. Saw a guy at a farm supply store with a cart full of deer feed blocks the other day. Is it possible he had the 400 acres in a county where it was legal to place all those? Yeah. Is it likely? No.

Where it is legal, hunters can place up to 2 gallons per 40 acres and an additional 2 gallons for every additional 40 acres. That's per property, not per hunter. So 4 guys hunting a 40 in a county where baiting is legal could each place 1/2 gallon of bait legally.

Heck yeah, holler at me. I’ll get you all set up. Garrett county is the place to be. Some decent public land.

Urban zones around Baltimore are unlimited antlerless…

Steer clear of the Eastern Shore. Just rednecks who like boats apparently.

Two southern zones in CT, both highly developed along the shoreline, allow baiting and almost unlimited doe harvest with bonus buck tags. Private property only.

No hunting Pa bear at roadkill deer dumping sites.
Or a trail that goes there. All trails end at the ocean.
So I been told.

No baiting here, yet the state is begging we kill more deer....Bow hunters rule here and the big majority only want big bucks, they like to leave does for bait, lol
I think you can take a doe, fill out the tag and they'll give you another, basically unlimited yet most guys won't..

So other than doe baiting, baiting exists, but don't get caught, or even allowing deer to raid your bird feeders..and they wonder why not enough deer are taken...
