Tax dollars gone, and probably need more to clean it up is my guess.

"Ivanpah, which is operated by Texas-based NRG Energy, is a very different model from most utility-scale solar farms with rectangular panels. It uses thousands of devices called heliostats that utilize mirrors to reflect heat onto a water boiler on a giant tower to produce steam for electricity. It was the world’s largest concentrating solar plant when it opened after receiving $1.6 billion in loan guarantees from DOE. That money has not been fully repaid."

Appears to not be like a normal solar panel operation. crazy

We have a coal fired fantasy happening in the armpit currently. Nick Begich was just here (2 days ago) a few weeks after LIsa was here. The taxpayers are gonna get burned again. frown

Sometimes new technology, that is being experimented with, doesn't work at scale. Also, a lot of green energy expenditures went to projects, like wind turbines, that aren't economically viable for the owners, without government support.

The Federal government is the worst institution for spending money ever to exist and people should understand this and want a smaller Federal government. Not saying the Federal government shouldn't be responsible for some things like interstate infrastructures and national security but they have become a bloated beast that keeps eating more at the expense of the citizens.

Have seen a few solar towers in Portugal. Saw them in the 90s.

But yet no one seems to care about all the nationalization that is currently going on. Drives me nuts.

Most Americans want command economics. Don't let it get to you. It is what it is.

Like the fact that "IF" our money is given to a company, we get a return on it Yotetrapper, if that's what you're referring to.

Do you though? Do you know how many companies that would be? About all of them, in some form or other. And does that only apply to outright grants? Or what about loans? Even if once the loan is paid back, the government still keeps the equity? Are you really sure that is what you want? So every research company that receives any government funding... the government should get a stake in?

I think those solar towers use liquid sodium to drive the generators.

These will be next. They take several hundred gallons of oil for lubrication and leak all over the area.
