Just road a wheeler right by an Amish school. 25 or so boys are girls all outside and everyone had a BB or pellet gun... What a terrifying day to be a chipmunk..

Early 70s in PA, always had a rifle or shotgun in the trunk in the student parking lot during hunting season. Used to go out and compare with buddies at lunch or before & after school.
The good ol' days.

I refinished 2 guns when I was in highschool
And I took them to school on the bus
And most boys had a buck knife in a leather case hanging from our belts

How times have changed

Late 60's there were times I would get in a quick duck hunt before school. A couple times I was getting late so left the gun out in the car and ran into school in my waders carrying some shoes. Crammed my hunting coat and waders into my locker, put on the shoes, and headed to class. Never caught any heat from teachers about it but those were different times.

And we use to leave the windows down in the truck and nobody ever messed with them. We all had knives in our pockets too

Same here. We even had a teacher or two out there to admire someone’s new purchase of a small game gun or new deer rifle.

Eh...wot?

used to hunt before and after school.
Carried my .22 into school and kept in my locker.
No big deal, just walked down the hall with a rifle and stuff it in the locker.
No buddy batted an eye.
My how we have become a nation of softies.

Soon as I saw the thread title,I immediately thought of the Nickel Mines school incident of 2006. I'm glad I was way off.

My little S-10 never had less than 2 guns in it throughout my high school years into the early 90’s…. Every other truck had a rear window gun rack which were only empty when it was on the seat next to the driver.. never had issues with idiots back then, a coincidence? Probably not, cuz if ya were an idiot ya got set straight by your parents or peers early on..

I don't consider myself that old and times have changed greatly since I was in school.

I took my compound bow to jr high. Did a presentation in speech class on archery or bowhunting or something and shot it at a target in the theater in front of class. Was only like 13, so my dad dropped me off for school with my backpack and my bow. I had to keep it in the principal's office till I had speech class, that was the only rule, and to "be safe with it".

High school, like others said, we always had our gear for whatever hunting season it was in our cars for after school adventures.

Fast forward to college. Took Hunter Safety Instructor Training as a class one year, the teacher asked, so I brought a backpack with of my 4 handguns to class the one day for the kids we were teaching to handle. Heck we reloaded ammo in our dorm rooms and skinned and butchered deer in the courtyard outside our rooms on campus.

They actually had a gun club in the Oregon high school. And they had a bullet trap set up against the one wall of the school. And they actually had target practice against the wall.
During hunting season my car always had a gun in it. We had this X hour were we didn't have a class, and it was an hour before lunch hour. 2 hours of hunting well maybe an hour.

Yeah we had a Rifle Team/gun club as well. I think the Sarge and Col. from our ROTC program were the coaches.
Tuesday night practice or team competition with other schools at the VFW indoor range with those target .22s was a blast.
Think I still have all my certificates. lol

When my Mother was in high school in the 1940’s, the bus driver carried a loaded rifle in the bus in deer season. At least once, he shot a buck out the window and had a couple of boys drag it back to the edge of the road.
