For youth. Wife drove them to a piece of public ground in the morning. As theybwere leaving they talked to someone that lived in the area and wrer told ehd hit hard this year there. I Know it dis last year I found 3 dead scouting.

So they went to a friend's family farm for the first time to hunt this evening. wife txt me about 5 my 15 year old had shot a doe and she was on her way to pick them up. I didnt get any good pictures but its a small one ( only picture that came through just now ) . He just txt said they saw 7 tonight. Their friends Mom and grandparents(family farm) told them kill all they want. So I expect them to likely tag out on that county bag limit promptly. [Linked Image]

That makes somewhere in his low 20s I think on deer. It was his first one with his cva break action 350 legend and our newest suppressor i just got for that reason silincer co 36m.

I was hoping they would shoot at least 10 between the 2 of them this year since they only shot 7 last year and we went through them and about 85 % of the cow we also bought around may. Not including all the chickens we raiemses, small game, fish and pork we bought
Definitely going to need more if they are all this small. Hopefully they do well when we go down to KY since Indiana lowered the limit for deer per hunter this year to 6 doe and a buck state wide unless its urban deer zone or refuge hunts those sont count on the state wide bag limits

If they tag out I may actual shoot a few myself this year.

Nice job.

Did you let them know they wouldn’t need to shoot so many deer if they would shoot adult does?

Stop over cooking your meat! It isn’t gamey, it’s over cooked!

Oh, I don’t disagree. But, PF seems worried about the lowered tag allocations and they need a lot of deer meat. Only seems reasonable to try and shoot the biggest deer possible to make the meat last as long as possible. And them boys have stacked plenty of deer to not shoot a fawn.

I’ll stack fawns all day long on my crop damage properties, but I also have unlimited tags.

Boy is geting it done. Should be on ice shortly. Its bitter sweet. I have known they can do it all for a few years now but this is the first time I have not been there to assist if needed. Im proud of the men they are becoming.

This was a new property. They picked location, shot, tracked, recovered, muted, and will have quartered it and got it on ice all on their own.

The boy was not joking when he said he needed a hair cut. He had in a hat then he said something but this picture sure makes it obvious.

lol. You’re welcome to come on out, I’ll put you on some decent spots. No big deer like y’all have up that way, but we have plenty of does.

True but they are still young and typical when not on the home place the first few that come out get shot. They get more selective after that. typically they let many more walk than a lot of hunters see in a season. They also spend more time in the woods so = more opportunities.

He was also really wanting to use his 350 legend. Last year he shot all he tagged early with x bow and never shot any with his new gun. Typical they are about done by then time gun season come in. Burnt out after a month and a half of hunting many days a week. May be a little different this year I have almost all gun season off and not as much as normal in October and early November. I generally prefer the 2 weks before gun season on public land

Congratulations to the boys PF. Question here in VA youth hunters have to have an adult with them at all times, are they allowed to hunt without adult supervision in Indiana?

Here he is earlier in the week checking point of impact shift with the new suppressor and making adjustments.
One of the first times I have seen an improvement in group size adding a suppressor. Or at least enough there is no question it made an improvement on accuracy.

I like that they consider 17 years old to still be youth.

Ours become “adult hunters” at 16.

And the liberals passed stupid gun laws a few years ago that really messed up youth and young hunters. We got a lot overturned. But, they are still kinda stupid.

PF, If I recall correctly you mentioned in a previous post that you had been struggling with EHD in your area. Does that cause any concerns as far as consuming the venison? I'm fortunate that I've not had to deal with it in my area.
