I swear every weekend morning when I turn on one of those “hunting” shows I just laugh and laugh but sometimes also just shake my head at what they think they may be doing to help the industry.
Piles of corn or a feeder right there in plain sight, captive audience of game animals all feeding away like they are accustomed to.
The show’s “star” whispering to us the audience about every detail on how they snuck in and planned this and that for months, etc etc then flash their sponsored equipment and the camera guy records the hit.
Well if I had resources yes sir I could buy such “hunts” every year myself too. But even if I did (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) no that ain’t really hunting in my mind either. Not much work involved in scouting if it’s all set up and the table set for the animals in front of you.
I”ve seen the guy you mention in this thread too. Real expert on this and that, I guess.

To me it’s sort of like the trappers out there on video too. Lots of experts out there. And some of them sure give outdoorsman a bad rap and don’t even know it too.

But I know the real guys to pay attention to and I will always pay attention to. You know the quiet dudes who don’t do videos of themselves and I see from time to time pop into the fur buyer. The buyer knows them by name. You know the quiet guys with pickup loads of well handled fur who don’t boast or brag just drop off, do their transaction and head back out into the countryside and you stand there and just think wow that’s a nice load of fur.

One of the things I do love about this forum is it is plumb loaded with the real deal dudes. When someone posts a deer on here, or a hog, or their trapping pics, it’s usually honest and hard working folks doing it right.

The Paul Harvey version is that guys are making money off those videos. Somebodies like watching them. If folks on here know whats going on viewers do too. I have no doubt many of them are saving money to shoot tame deer. If they want to do it I don't care. Seems like buying a steer would make more sense. Lots cheaper meat. I doubt many ranchers would care if the buyer wanted to shoot it hisself. Could get the skull cleaned and hang it in his trophy room.

I saw his brother on a fishing show once! Totally night and day! He was very cool to watch!

Tom Miranda is a part of the industry that many of you are critical of. He's as genuine and real as any of you. A friend of mine guided him once, had nothing but high praise for Tom. My friend also guided many other big names in the industry, some are egotistical jerks, most, like Tom, are not. You can't lump everyone together in your high and mighty judgments
