The CSA believed in state's rights so much, that they wrote into their constitution that their states could choose whether to be a free state or a slave state.
Oh, wait, no they didn't. They required all their states to be slave states, explicitly forbidding them to opt out, in their constitution.
And the North was so staunchly anti-slavery they kept a few slaves back for themselves to remind everyone how wrong it was, Lol....Preach it Goose!
You can't use the very few minority corrupt situations to condemn the motives of the majority. I believe its very defendable to say the overwhelming reason for the war in the Norths eyes was slavery
Somehow, I think I he folks that feel like slavery wasn't a big deal, or should have been handled differently, or can't say outright that slavery was wrong, would feel differently if I get were the slaves and their children were being auctioned off.
Okay slavery was wrong, so let's condemn 99.9% of all humans that ever existed, their history and culture, and while we're at their descendants and legacy.
The abolishment of slavery ain't even been here a minute in the scheme of things and is more utopian pipe dream than fact with folks like you actively opposing the efforts to eradicate it fully.
Curious, why is it those with the most to gain from slavery act as if they are the most impacted personally by it?
By corruption of basic human rights and the crimes against humanity that hinder the functionality of a free and just society
So you are somewhere around one hundred and eighty five years old and didn't get your freedom on your 21st birthday?
I asked just how WERE YOU DIRECTLY HARMED. Not some theorectically strawman.
By your reasoning the king of England owes me big.
As for a free and just society it seems like we functioned quite well until a bunch New England Karens got up in everybody's business and busted it all up.
Honestly I couldn't see where me being directly harmed really had anything with the discussion really since most of probably weren't so I just made a bs post.
And I'm confused by the king of England owing you based off anything I said. I dont recall saying or implying that anyone in present times owes anyone anything
And I'm guessing by ur reasoning ur 185 years since you said "we" functioned just fine back then?
Yep. I am in ks. My mammas family came out of TN and my dads family rode up out of TX to settle here just prefacing my remarks before pointing out that the war was not only about slavery that was the rallying call and lighting rod but there were other reasons as history buffs here can research

In the context of a war, I can very well use occurences of Northern slave ownership while they (the North) were simultaneously condemning slavery....It's not okay to condone a little hypocrisy vs. widespread hypocrisy to the point of killing. Just to justify the means to another (non slavery) end.
Lincoln lived in Kentucky early on, as did Jefferson Davis for a while after he was born close to here in Fairview....Lincoln was well aware of what went on literally across the mason dixon river line from his early home.

my family fought for the CSA and some of them did own slaves. The slaves looked healthy and happy in the pictures .. in much better shape than a lot of the crackheads I see wandering around today lol
Used to squirrel hunt on a place over on Pin Oak Creek just outside of Hearne. There was some Confederate graves on top the hill on that place and the Daughter's of the Confederacy would still come out and tidy up the graves and put flowers and such. I can't recall the names on their graves, but some of them may have been your kinfolk Savell.
My family fought for the CSA as well. Some also fought in the Texas Revolution prior. All my stock is from the east Kentucky, Missouri, and Mississippi migrations to Texas. I'm proud of it too.

Way cool. That property was the family place of one of my buddies. His last name is Robertson. I'll try to get the names off those graves from him. During that time, I'm sure those families knew one another.

Neither.
The carpetbaggers that came in during the 1870s after the Civil War took over pretty much everything including Texas politics. They still run all the major cities and control our politics. It's like Texas' own little AIPAC.

That's awesome. I guarantee our ancestors knew one another and likely fought alongside each other. My mom's side was name Neighbors. All I know about them was that one of the grandfathers was an Indian Negotiator for the Texas Republic or something.
My Dad's side goes back to the Highsmith's as Great Grandma was a Highsmith. Her Grandfather was Benjamin Franklin Highsmith. All my Lewis kin is mostly buried in the Sabinal Canyon of Texas, but my moms' side was from central Texas and buried there.
There are a few facts not generally considered..having slaves has occurred in all societies through time..tribes of Indians kept members of other tribes as slaves, Indians kept whites as slaves. In Africa, they kept people from other tribes and a lot of those are where the ones shipped to the US came from. One of the biggest ironies..Robert E Lee was hated because he fought for the CSA. Wasn't a slave owner. Didn't believe in it. Ulysses S Grant..regarded as the savior of the slaves and loved..was a slave owner.
